Nail pops are very common and have a range of causes. Some older homes had nails instead of screws (hence the term nail pop even though most homes now have screws). Sometimes the screw gun sets them too deep tearing the paper. Truss construction is very prone to it because trusses flex more than standard construction with changes in temperature Best practice to avoid it is to use construction adhesive plus screws, but I got a million nail pops in my last house after a hurricane came through a wracked my house just enough to create nail pops everywhere.

My house was built in 1966. I still get "nail" pops in it, on occasion. It happens when houses settle, etc.

Building materials expand and contract seasonally. Houses settle. It doesn't matter what the prior history was. The vast majority of houses have this isuse to some degree. If you use screws to do repairs, the problem is less likely to recur in those areas.
