Area Rug Suggestions

I need a new area rug in my tv room/reading room/home office. The one we have currently is sisal and showing signs of wear.

The configuration of the house is changing and so there will be less traffic in the area and probably more lounging.

I’m looking for a woolly, more plush floor surface to cocoon in. The paint and wood undertones of the sideboard are yellow/gold.

My personality embraces contrast . . . in life, love, and home.

I’m looking for an investment piece because I might move to a downsize eventually. My upstairs living room sofa is gold and I love it. If the carpet were something that could tie-in or even go with that sofa, it would be a bonus.

Thank you in advance for all your wonderful insights.

I'd go for a wool flat weave kilim rug with a red background and yellow accents. Like these, perhaps:

Marina Tribal Stripe Indoor/Outdoor Rug, Red, 7'10"x9'10" · More Info

Consigned, Kilim Geometric Flat-Woven Persian Oriental Area Rug, Red, 7'1"X4'6" · More Info

And then get a few kilim pillows for the sofa, too.

    Hi Sabrina,

I said I liked contrast and those are BOLD ! They are lovely and a whole new perspective I wouldn’t have considered. Thank you.

I have that first rug in gold, and while I Iike it for my sitting area and it’s exactly the look I want, it’s not what I’d recommend in your case. It’s not plush, it’s an indoor/outdoor rug, and is quite thin.

    Bad lighting, sorry —

Are you wanting to go in a more traditional rug style (like Persion or Oriental) or stay modern? Or other?

I love your gold couch! It’s fabulous.

I’m a huge Kilim fan and like that idea a lot, especially with your furnishings and tile. I have three Kilim rugs and lots of pillows! They’re classic.

Off to hunt and hopefully others see this and weigh in, too. :)

ETA: Sundance has some beautiful rugs, but again they might be more thin than you’re wanting.

ETA 2: Looking at colorful rugs — I like this from Horchow

    And this from Rug Studio

One more for now, great colors in this Karastan — click on ”reviews” to see it in people’s rooms …

I’d check Etsy, too. Lots of great choices.

Those are just after doing quick searches, but might inspire for further hunting.

So many possibilities with your furnishings, tile, style, etc.

I’d check local, too, if possible. My area (in Texas) has lots of these styles at local rug stores. Kilim, southwestern, tribal, etc, and often one-of-a kind investment rugs. It can be hard to see how deep colors are on monitors, especially with the faded rug trend so popular now. You might need to get samples where available.

Bumping this for others to see, too. Good luck!

Thank you. The examples shown are lovely. . . and yet another reason to visit Texas !

Your furnishings and wall color would look nice with a mid century modern style. I would do a white or off white rug with grey and yellow pillows to complete the look. You can also add a camel leather armchair

Thank you for the suggestion. The furniture is absolutely mid-century-modern (as old as I am). The carpets you suggest would look brilliant . . . but unfortunately aren’t quite our vibe. Good ideas though .…
