Nice looking reds even if they are on short scapes. Maybe your earlier weather played a part? It's frustrating to wait years for one to bloom. I had one that still hadn't bloomed after 3 seasons here and was just up to blooming size last year only to bite the dust over this last winter. Argh!............Maryl

Maryl - I think last year's moderate drought, the December days of below zero temps, and the late March freeze all contributed to shorter scapes and low bud counts. Many clumps only have one or two scapes this time. It's just sad to put in so much time into the garden and have these poor results.

Oh Debra, I second that thought about poor results! I am glad to see Butterfly Moon as the ”red insect syndrome” got all my buds. Pink Aloha is pretty and is early. Rose Sensation has quite the edge. The reds are looking good. Perseus’ Sandals-what color!!

Love all the reds. I really do like both the Gypsy Cats seedfling. and the Blue Jay Tapestry seedling. Good that clown Parade is doing well, my Perseus' Sandals x Jumping Jack Flash is still blooming here.

Kate - Rose Sensation had never had such dark color or wide edge in its previous two years here. I thought it looked really pretty today.

Kay - Glad to know your Perseus' Sandals kid is stilll blooming. It blooms for a long time here, and last year rebloomed for the first time.

Maryl - That's terrible you waited so many years for one to bloom, and then it died over the winter. I had one that was supposed to be Blindingly Beautiful that yesterday bloomed after three years, and it was some Maryott intro that I can't identify because he has so many that look alike. (By the way, I commented on another thing your said in a reply below.)

I see that Pink Aloha is registered as early midseason. Here, early bloom is not reliable and it is more likely to bloom late midseason. Typical of earlier evergreens. Are your leaves bigger than normal? Fans here are much larger.

You always have the nicest reds. Butterfly Moon looks so pretty, mine looks like it may be another week before bloom. Ghost Gifts just makes me want to keep going back to look, so very interesting. Love your seedlings.

Somehow I missed Pink Aloha. I do miss mine, but it's not meant to be here. Does it rebloom for you?..............Maryl

Perseus' Sandals x Jumping Jack Flash is really pretty. So are Pink Aloha and Stolen Heart.

Mantis and Maryl - Pink Aloha may be registered as EM, but it's always bloomed midseason in my garden. It's never rebloomed for me in the place where it's planted. A previous one I had planted in a pot always rebloomed.

Mantis - I have one evergreen and maybe five dormants where the foliage is much larger than usual, but in most cases fans are smaller than usual. We were in a moderate drought for several months last year.
