Seedlings From the Past Couple Days

Here is Dancing Flamingo X UF #3:

Destined to See X Unk, likely Green Mystique

Pink Extraordinaire X Cexy Samantha #3

Lace Sampler X Victorian Lace

The next three are from the cross of Stenciled Infusion and my peach patterned seedling out of Aztec Headdress.

Pink Aloha X Old Time Italian is a pretty bitone.

The third one of the cross of Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen was a rose red.

Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing #1

Pink Panther Paws x Sultry Girls - This came from seeds I bought from Laura. I was hoping for something with a watermark, but I like the cascade form.

All are looking good, Debra. That Dancing Flamingo seedling makes quite a clump! The Destined to See seedling is showing that green throat and I like that. All the Stenciled Infusion seedlings are pretty but I kept coming back to the second one for some reason. Very nice.

Thanks for your comments, Kate! That DF seedling is the best of the three. It multiplies fast and is up to nine fans now. Last year it was 34 inches tall, but this time it's only 29 inches high. The second of the Stenciled Infusion seedlings is my favorite too. Its a 7 incher and has more ruffling on it than the other two. There was a fourth that looked pretty nice too, but I couldn't find the photo of it.

What a beautiful group of seedlings.! The Dancing Flamingo seedlings is probably my favorite. My second favorites are the three out of Stenciled Infusion--such lovely color. I hope they all have good stats for you. Looks like there are some intros in this group.

Thanks Nan! Hardly anything has good stats here this year, so I'm not worried about buds and branching on the first-time bloomers. I was very happy with the results in the Stenciled Infusion cross, and am already planning to cross them to Petit patterns with fancy edges.

I always look forward to seedlings! A bunch of beauties for sure, but it was easy for me to pick my favorite: I love the color and form of Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing #1. I also really like Dancing Flamingo X UF #3 [such a bright pink and great form as well] .

Brad - I had several other UF seedlings bloom for the first time and they were blah, so I was really happy to see Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing. Two more of that cross bloomed today, and both were pretty appliques. One was lavender and the other was purple. I hope to get good pictures of those in the coming days.

    Debra,

I really like the DF seedling. I love the lighter pink around the eye and the white midrib. It gives it a starburst look. Really nice looking bloom. How is the bud count? I also like the 2nd STENCILED INFUSION seedling. I really like its form.

Nice, as usual! My fav is the Dancing Flamingo seedling. I really like the 2nd Stenciled Inf seedling. Not a one I would kick out

David - The first year that DF seedling bloomed it had 18 buds. Last year when we were in a drought, it had 14, and this year most of the scapes have 14-15. It's in a very crowded seedling bed. This fall I will divide it up and give it some room to see if it can return to 18 buds, or even more.

Nancy - It looks like you and almost everyone else likes that second Stenc. Infus. kid. This year it doesn't have many buds, but hardly anything in my garden does. I may move it to a better place this fall.

I have two favorites today. First is the Dancing Flsmingo seedling, I love the shape and vibrant color. I like the third Stenciled Infusion seedling the best. The sepal markings are more dominant than #2 and I like the more intense purple.

Sherry - The third Stenciled Infusion seedling is quite striking. It looked almost Navy blue rather than purple early in the morning. It is the smallest of the three. The first two are 7 inches, and the one you like is a 6 incher. They all seem larger than Stenciled Infusion to me.

What color do you guys think the Dancing Flamingo seedling is? Several of you called it pink. I see it as a pinkish red.

It is a rosy red to me. Lots of attractive flowers here. It will be interesting to see which ones develop into potential intros. I have been in seedling beds, drawn to particular flowers, and then the hybridizer notes why each one is not a potential intro. Difficult choices; and in some cases, bad choices too, as some intros turn out to be duds.

I would say that the color most closely resembles cerise. Everyone's monitors also display colors a little differently.

How beautiful they are Debra! If you are wearing something with buttons, they have to be bursting with pride to have created so may beauties. the Dancing Flamingo seedling is my kind of bloom: gorgeous! The color is a rose on my Monitor. I really like the edges and the color on the Destined to see seedling. The first to Stenciled Infusion seedlings have a LOT OF stenciled infusion showing, and the third one has the blue which is very pretty. Of course,
Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing #1 has a UF form which I like so well and I really like that one. That last one looks like a large bloom and is very pretty. I always like Cexy Samantha seedlings. The Dancing Flamingo and the third Stenciled Infusion seedling, the Destined to See X Unk, likely Green Mystique seedling and Freedom of Expression X Violet Sabrewing #1 stand out to me, but you have to realize I am drawn to UFs

David - I think the color of the DF seedling is closest to cerise.

Mantis - The DF seedling has more pink in it than a rosy red does. Although it is very close to rose red.

Kay - I'm very proud of my seedlings and like them better than most of my registered daylilies. I will be moving out a lot more registered ones this year to have room to grow out my seedlings. Last year I said I'd ideally like to get down to 100 registered daylilies. This Spring as I was weeding, I revised that to 30. I never got all the registered beds weeded. I can't water all of them during these dry spells. It takes far too long to apply deterrents for grubs, deer, and thrips on 500, plus 150 seedlings. Somethings gotta go.
