You are the queen of clematis. They don't grow well for me. Maybe I don't have them in enough sun. Glorious and amazing vines you have!

Kay, the first photo is Huldine clematis, the second is Betty Corning clematis

Debra, clematis need sun. the saying for growing them is ” face in the sun, feet in the shade”. The daylilies give the ”feet ” the shade.

Wow, are those impressive. I like the white one especially. The only Clematis that did well in my hot climate was the Sweet Autumn Clematis which is very invasive by seed and shouldn't be grown IMO........... The thing that made it unique among Clematis, was not the flowers, but the foliage. Sure you can get the fancier Clematis to grow and flower well in the cooler weather of spring here but once the summer sets in the foliage begins to burn and look hideous. A large mass of burned and diseased leaves for the rest of our summer months was not an attractive sight. I used to grow a short Clematis called Elsa Spath in amongst a rose I had and that helped a bit to hide the decaying Clematis foliage, but it still showed through the rose leaves. In the end I'll just admire yours Sherry and enjoy them when you post them...............Maryl

A great picture of the white clematis, since white tends to blow out in a picture. Maybe you can get a second one growing on the other side, though the trellis itself is beautiful.

Come on, commenters, clematis aren't that difficult to grow if you choose a vigorous one. Elsa Spath is an earlier one that does well. And Jackmanii is easy to grow. There are three cultivars on this trellis: Jackmanii, Jackmanii Superba, and Happy Birthday. I should have taken a later picture when it was all filled out; but I've been too busy watering.

Sherry, I kept meaning to come back and comment on this. Those are spectacular!! As Debra said you are the queen of clematis! Mantis, that is a beautiful picture as well!

Mantis - I think clematis tends to grow better father north. I'll second what Maryl said about Sweet Autumn Clematis growing like crazy here. All the others I've tried just don't have many blooms.

Sherry - How many years have you had those two? I've tried growing mine next to the house like you do with daylilies shading the roots. My results were not impressive. I've tried five different kinds. Henri and Nelly Moser did the best, but nothing like yours or Kays do.

Debra, these are larger clematis which means a bigger show. They are both hardy zone 4-9 and are easy to grow. I tried Nelly Moser several years ago and was unimpressed with its performance here, out it went. You should try one of these, Huldine can reach 15’ and Betty can reach 10’.

I didn't care for Nelly either. It also faded here. Sherry's pic inspired me to take another photo, and indeed this is peak for Jackmanii.

Asao is a very reliable early bloomer.

A feeble rain this afternoon, but still hoping for an inch overnight.

I like clematis, and grow several, not so impressively as yours. That white one is especially impressive. I have one with the bell shaped flowers that looked really good this year. Well, it still does, slightly past its prime now and may not look like anything tomorrow. Lots of heavy wind, thunder, lightning, and at least some rain.

No rain here again, just some feeble drizzle. That means 6 weeks with 1/2” of rain here!
