I am so sorry about your lack of rain. I finally got some yesterday and more expected tonight-although it is a be careful what you ask for scenario as possible tornadic activity is included.

Aunt Patsy and Maui Sunrise have such rich color. You know I like Canary Flush-big, flat, yellow! Bluegrass Shadows looks good. I had few blooms and not one good one. I don‘t even think I took a photo of it.

Thunder Glow caught my eye. How does Bluegrass Shadows do for you? Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper is stunning. Did you get rain today? I have been watching the weather from Nashville and sounds like you should be. It has been raining here, a few bouts of heavy rain for a few minutes, more wind, thunder and lightning than anything, but I will take what rain we can get. And hope it continues a little longer.

In the estate garden, which is irrigated, flowers are small and stunted. Lack of water is not the only issue affecting daylilies this year. Now we are going back to highs around 70. Blue Over You most catches my eye--a Lamertson, I see. I think that Kay got more rain than the rest of us. Perhaps why she was able to rate the season "good."

Nancy - We did get some rain this afternoon and evening, but not as much as Southern Kentucky got. I think there's just under a half inch in my rain gage. We may get a little more light rain in the next hour. Bluegrass Shadows usually has 10-12 buds per scape , this year less. Scapes here are generally 24-26 inches tall. It multiplies slowly, but it is a reliable rebloomer. This is my fourth season with it, and it's only 5 fans. There was a discussion about it a few weeks ago on NGA, and even a guy growing it in Florida says it's only multiplied to three fans for him after three years. Mine isn't planted in the best place, and it gets less and less sun each year. But I do love the blooms, if I can keep the thrips off of them. I'm pretty pleased with Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper. I hope bud count and branching will be better in a kinder year.

Kate - So sorry Bluegrass Shadows didn't have nice blooms for you this year. It's such a pretty one. Glad to know you got some rain, and I hope tonadoes did not materialize.

Mantis - That's interesting that flowers in the estate garden are small this year. Blue Over You has had small, stunted blooms until today. I'm finally seeing the results of watering it just about every day for a week. Its scapes are actually taller than they've ever been for me, but the bud count is lower than previous years. At least it finally made it up to five fans. It's been adding and then losing fans for several year, I think because of the grubs.

I have always loved your Maui Sunrise and that is a beautiful bloom. I like Bluegrass Shadows, and Blue Over You is a pretty one. Nice color. Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper is lovely. I particularly like the clor and I like the recurving form.'

Aunt Patsy, Canary Flush and Thunder Glow top my list , but it's a hard choice as so many others are beauties also................Maryl

Maryl - I remember you liked Aunt Patsy last year. It had buds in the teens this time, but the scape is much shorter than it should be - about 23 inches.

Kay - I was so lucky that Julia shared Maui Sunrise with me several years ago. It's registered as a late, but it always blooms early or midseason for me.

Kate - I bought what I thought was Canary Flush three years ago. When that bloomed it was a red I didn't care for. They hybridizer sent me true fans of Canary Flush in the summer, and I was glad to see it this year. Like everything else this year, it's short and low on buds, but I like the blooms I'm seeing.
