Your seedlings are beautiful. I especially like the Blue Over You seedling. It has a very interesting color, not weak like many lavenders, but very saturated with a very nice eye and edge. I also like the Blood of the Martyrs seedling. I like a red with a watermark.

The named cultivars are pretty too. There are some nice patterns there too with Butterfly Moon and There's a Place. Rosie Cotton's Ribbons is looking good too.

I like both All Things to All Men seedlings-the first because of the great edge and the second because if the color. I had not one bloom on Butterfly Moon because of the red insects. Yours is so pretty. Rosie Cotton’s Ribbons is striking and what red color on Such a Blaze!

Thanks Nan! That shot of Rosie Cotton's Ribbons is lighter in color than it really was. I took it late in the evening, so the camera was not getting the right color. It had held its color very well on our two 92-degree days.

Kate - I'm glad you like both of the All Things seedlings. I was delighted with both the colors and the edge on the first one. I'd had a couple other All Things seedilngs boom, and neither of those had much of an edge. All Things does throw really pretty lavenders with blue tones. As a garden plant, All Things to All Men is awful here because it always splotches. I gave away about half the clump to a friend in Kentucky in April. Now that I've seen the kids, I wish I'd kept more of it because I only have one fan blooming this time, and I'm itching to hybridize with it again. Karol Emmerich has said if you can't get good kids out of All Things, you should give up as a hybridizer. LOL

Very pretty seedlings. Not sure if I prefer the first Blue over You seedling or the Ultimate Sacrifice one as both are lovely as for the registered ones, Such a Blaze is an attention getter with the bright res, Sugar Magnolia is always a love, and Rosie Cottons Ribbons looks really good, especially for ens of day. You never have a stinker in the group. Nice post.

Kay - I think Ultimate Sac. X Blood of Martyrs will have a better edge when it's hotter. I don't ever remember it being this cool at this time in June. Such A Blaze has beautiful, vibrant flowers. I think I don't have it in the best place for it to perform its best. I may move it in the fall.

Sherry - Good guess, but the other parent is not Mary's Baby. I never much tried to hybridize with MB because it had small flowers and did not perform well in my garden. (I now heavily use Star Lord, a child of Mary's Baby with tall scapes and large flowers in hybridizing. Mary's Baby now lives down the street in a neighbor's yard.) I'm pretty sure you don't have the parent in question. I know Kate does, and Mantis used to many years ago .I'm not sure if Kay ever had it. I've grown it for 17 or 18 years, and it is named after a woman. It's funny that Mary's Baby performed so well for so many of you, yet tanked, much like Indian Giver, in my garden. The other Derrow I have out of MB, Steven Scott Derrow, just pales in comparison to Star Lord here. It will be on my fall sales list, if anyone is interested.

My favorite is There's A Place. Great color! Sugar Magnolia is looking good. Mine started today, didn't know it would, one short scape quite far from the clump bloomed. Also great is #2 Blue Over You x All Things to All Men.

Brad - There's A Place does have wonderful colors. But its plant habit doesn't have the usual vigor one expects from Curt Hanson's plants. Seeing how great Sugar Magnolia looked in your pictures the past two years was what motivated me to finally move it to a good sun position. Thanks for the comment on the seedling.

The common purple may be Bela Lugosi.

Mantis - It's named for a woman and not a man. It is an edged purple.
