Hi!

We are currently working on redesigning our kitchen/dining areas and have come up with the below plan.

Grateful for any comments, feedback or tips!

IMO you cannot have the table where it is in the 3D drawings. You need a min of 1.5 m between a counter and a table and thta will be tight for sure . IMO from what you show there is no space for a DRtable and chairs .

Agree with Patricia. IMO you should change the orientation of the island and add stools on one side. Family becomes dining. Living becomes family/living. You don’t have space for all you have on the plan.

I agree. You don’t have even close to the space necessary for an island and a table.

Also do not forget about a hood exhaust over your cooktop. Building Code does not allow cabinets directly over a cooktop the way your renderings show because it is a fire hazard. I can’t tell whether that is a window behind your cooktop since in your drawing that would look onto the laundry, or is it a pass-through to the dining room. If that is a window to the outside behind the cooktop that is not a good idea because it creates problems.

Gosh just noticed the cooktop location and issues there. The kitchen layout is not ideal and needs to be completely reworked.

That looks really cramped. I also would try to find a way to have the sink against the wall area instead of the island. Imagine all the dishes around the island area. Can't even have a drying rack without it looking cluttered.

One could also wash the dishes then put them away and not leave a drying rack out…

Have you considered moving the kitchen into what is now the Family Room? And then…making the kitchen and dining room, a larger space combined, into your family/dining area/. It has direct access to the deck and outside dining, too. You might also be able to utilize the storage area off your current family room for a kitchen pantry.

Best to post a 2d layout of new plan as its hard to know what the dimensions are. That being said there isn’t any real prep space by sink unless you are prepping over dw then crossing over sink to stove. it’s both awkward and too small. frankly i’d rather cook in the old kitchen. i’d certainly also skip window behind cooktop and put in a regular window to break up the long stretch of uppers. i think if you want to open it up i would keep original footprint and do a penninsula. not every kitchen is sized for an island.

Your old kitchen was a more efficient layout than your new one for all the reasons mentioned.

All very good comments here. My one comment would be making the upper cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. It looks much cleaner and not a dust catcher.

What is the thing that looks like an inline soffit, casting a shadow on the table?
