Innocent Discovery X Dearest Valentine

Seedling (August Frost X Winter's Angel) X Last Snowflake is very white looking. Unfortunately some critter broke off the rest of the buds.

This is a late blooming sibling from the cross of Gypsy Cats Seedling X (Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision). Since it blooms so late, has at least 14 buds that I can see and lateral branching, this one can stay for awhile.

Very beautiful post! I especially like Browns Ferry Debutante and The Pink Shabang. Tart with a heart is quite interesting. Innocent Discovery X Dearest Valentine is my favorite of the seedlings. I really enjoy the rounded form though many of my seedlings have been UF. I need to start crossing for that. That will be hard as I don't have many rounded forms like I really enjoy.

I sure wish I could grow Star Lord. As you said it's Mary's Baby only taller and like Mary's Baby, it's beautiful...........Dearest Mahogany is beautiful too. Too bad about the vigor problem............The Pink Shabang is another one too tender for me, but still striking...........Maryl

Sherry - Unless we get a lot of rain, I doubt that August Frost X will rebloom. It's in an area where the hose doesn't quite stretch. Most of the seedlings I have that are reblooming, I've watered regularly. I'm so glad you are happy with Zuzu's Treasure!

Maryl and Brad - I haven't made up my mind whether I like The Pink Shabang well enough to keep it long term. It hasn't worked well for me in hybridizing.

Maryl - What I love most about Star Lord is the large 6.5 inch bloom. I can't remember - did you lose Mary's Baby?

Buddy's Red Head catches my eye today. So pretty. I like the August Frost seedling as well. It does look very white. The Dearest Valentine seedling also looks good as does the Warm in Winter. Nice clump shot of The Tribble With Blue. Lots of pretties on this post!

I don't know what your noid is but I bet it is a Maryott-looks too much like his blooms not to be one. I bet he would know-you might try emailing him and asking if you want to know-three years is a long time to wait for a wrong bloom. I got a wrong plant from Schreiners two years ago and actually liked it better than the one ordered but they had no idea what it was and I was pretty sure it was not a Maryott so pursued it no further.

Beautiful flowers. I really like the seedling Innocent Discovery X Dearest Valentine. Bob and I have discussed Dearest Mahogany.. Now that we see how it does for you, we will pass. Tart with a Heart is another one I like. We bought it last season and it did survive the winter, but it's just one small fan and I don't think it will bloom this year.

I didn't realize that the blooms on Star Lord were so big. Another nice detail. I've lost Mary's Baby twice in the many many years I've grown it. The last time was during the Arctic Freeze of winter 20/21. Pretty good for my small pot system and a Sev. Can't imagine being without it.................Maryl

Maryl - The big blooms make Star Lord highly desirable. I thought you lost Mary's Baby during Winter 20/21. I know it's one of your favorites.

Mantis - I'm no longer using Dearest Valentine in hybridizing because the kids are so much more willing to set pods and most of them bloom earlier than DV. Dearest Mahogany is still in a pot. One positive for it is that it survived the winter in that pot when 10 others in pots did not make it.

Nan - Innocent Discovery X Dearest Valentine had 16 buds its first year to bloom, which was a rainy year. But it has not matched that since. It does multiply like crazy though, and it reblooms. So it will stay in my garden, but I don't know that it will ever be registered. Dearest Mahogany is not a strong plant. A friend in our local club got it at the same time I did, and hers didn't even survive a year. Another friend is Kentucky has it, but she says it doesn't multiply well for her either. It's a poor hybridizing plant, so I wouldn't recommend it for you - even in a greenhouse. Tart with a Heart is pretty tender, but I can see why you would want to use it in your red-eyed program. It does set pods, and its pollen is potent. I've crossed it with both of my red eyed babies this season.

Kate - Thanks for your comments. Buddy's Red Head used to be a top performer in the years before I had to have my Hackberrry tree taken down. It was also hit by Junebug grubs a couple of years ago. Despite all that, it still does pretty well, and it has rebloom scapes coming.

Thanks for commenting on the seedlings! I was especially happy with the color, pattern and look Sword of Justice X Warm in Winter had. I crossed it with some other patterns, and I sure hope those pods make it through the high 90s-100s that are forecast for this week.

I too think the NOID is a Maryott. It shows here as and orange gold petal with dark orange eye and edge. I looked through all Maryott's registrations and could not find one like that. Vickie on NGA suggested Fashion Rings, which she once had. Her photos on the database show the right petal color but a red eye. I'm wondering if the eye would be red in cooler climates than mine. The flower size, scape height and bloom time all match Fashion Rings.

Kay - Thanks for your comments about the seedlings. I was so mad when I saw the rest of buds on the white one had been broken off. The performance of The Pink Shabang is questionable. It didn't bloom at all last year, its second season here. I haven't successfully crossed it with anything yet. If we get some cool days, I'll try again. I just like my Bubblegum Queen seedlings so much better than The Pink Shabang, I'm thinking in two years it will move on.

Debra, it might be Fashion Rings-I have that one but like most Maryotts it has diminished in fans and I rarely take a picture when it blooms but mine has a more red eye than yours. I will try to find an old pic.

For me I like Browns Ferry Debutante . Really nice color and form. Are you doing crosses with it? I like all the seedings. No garden pics this year?

Julia - Yes, Bowns Ferry Debutante has pods on it! It's extremely hard to get garden shots anymore since I no longer have trees to provided shade. My whole backyard is in daylilies, and the shots I've taken look horrible. My garden is a hybridizing garden rather than a display garden, so I don't remove the mushies and there are tags hanging everywhere. Look to others for garden shots.
