Blooming on a smoky Wednesday

The air is thick with smoke here for the last two days. It wasn't overly hot but seemed humid. There was a breeze at all so it was unpleasant outside especially past noon.

The number of named varieties blooming is picking up. We aren't at peak yet, but maybe close.

Wrangler Red was new to the garden last season. This is its ffo this season.

This also might be the first flower on Greywoods Lips A Quiver. It has taken awhile to get established.

Computer Virus is an interesting hose in hose double. It's not a very big flower.

I picked Disco Inferno up cheap at a club sale. It is one of the brightest oranges in the garden. Bob loves it.

King Crab is another orange Bob loves (I do too.).

Snarl looked nice today.

Spacecoast Cheese Whiz really is the color of Cheese Whiz.

Fruitful Discovery is a favorite.

Shabby Chic put out a nice flower today.

Moving Forward is a southern bred daylily that has done well here.

Wolverine is looking better this year. I have loaded it down with so many pods that it sort of went into a slump.

Now for the seedling Queen of the Garden--This is Sonoran Desert Rose X Crimson Stories. It earned a blue ribbon today (it was selected for further evaluation)

I probably posed this one before, but I am amazed at the deep coloring. This is Blackbird's Song X Eggplant Luminosity.

Bodacious Bite X (My Friend Mary Jane X Crimson Stories)

I know a lot of you don't like stipples but I think this one is interesting. The stipples make a reverse bitone pattern. It is Adavior X O Positive.

This is Bass Gibson X (Fulva Yunnan X Unknown)

King Crab is my favorite of the registered ones - great shades of orange and wonderful curling sepals. Moving Forward also catches my eye. Queen of the Garden is impressive with its color and edge, but that Blackbird's Song seedling just blows me away with its dark colors.

Nancy, I probably said it before but Blackbird's Song X Eggplant Luminosity is great! King Crab and Disc Inferno are nice bright oranges.

Those oranges make quite a statement! I like the brightness of Spacecoast Cheese Whiz as well-can’t miss them in the garden!! Totally agree with the others on Blackbird’s Song seedling. Love the color on that one.

I do love bright oranges but that Wrangler Red is simply gorgeous. That edge and eye color is perfect.

I like the color on Disco Inferno. SC Cheese Whiz has perfect form and I bet it shines in the garden. My favorite though is your seedling Blackbird's Song x. I don't know if the colors would hold in triple digit heat (even in the shade), but for the people who live in cooler climates, I bet it would be a good one if the stats are satisfactory for you.........Maryl

Like Maryl, I like Disco Inferno> I like Snarl and KIng Crab.
Fruitful Discovery is a pretty one with a fancy edge. Blackbird's Song X Eggplant Luminosity is just such an unusual color and a real beauty. onoran Desert Rose X X Crimson Stories is a beauty and Bob's This is Bass Gibson X (Fulva Yunnan X Unknown) is nice.

And Hell on Heels has put up a scape!

Moving Forward I see is a Grace evergreen. Greywood Lips has not done much in many years. We shall see. Is Fruitful Discovery a slower opener? How does it compare with parent Mitch Lynd? Yes, the Eggplant seedlings are promising.
