I love the look of Better Than Ice Cream. Very pretty! You know I like Cherokee Star since I still grow it. Yesterday Memories looks like it does very well for you. I hope the rain will cool you down a bit. We're supposed to be in the 80s for the weekend, and I'm very much looking forward to that.

I like your newby Rethink Pink, and yes it reminds my of Substantial Evidence of which I am a big fan. I have Buzz saw too…I dont think mine has ever faded to white, it is pretty white. Buzz Saw is the only daylily I have with teeth, generally not pronounced here. I also have Cherokee Star, love mine.

Maryl: What a lovely post. In your climate those daylilies just thrive and don't look like heat or rain affects them. I like the garden pic of the various plantings. . Nice grouping.I believe I may have grown Substantial Evidence in NY. Been hot and humid here so maybe by next week we will go back into the 80's.

Maryl, you know I like those big flat ones so I like Rethink Pink as well. Yes, definitely keep it! Better Than Ice Cream is so pretty with all those colors. Yesterday Memories is a pretty one. I had it at one time but lost it to ”something”!

Beautiful daylilies! My favorite of the bunch is Better Than Ice Cream. What luscious color with a wonderful edge! Rethink Pink is also pretty. I like how flat it is with that big throat. Buzz Saw is a good performer here too although I don't think it reblooms for us.

Yes, Cherokee Star is such a bright and reliable one. I see that Buzz Saw has a lot of different color gradations in people's pics. Better than Ice Cream is by a hybridizer I know nothing about.

Debra: There's nothing like seeing a daylily in person to make you say wow! I was at a nursery in July 2 years ago and Cherokee Star was there glowing from across the aisles. I couldn't say no to it............Sherry: My climate is hotter then yours, with daytime temperatures now in the mid 90's to over 100. Pale colors inevitably fade to some degree as in Buzz Saw turning almost white. Just out of curiosity, what color is your Buzz Saw after a day in the sun?..........Julia: Thank you for the nice words about my garden. My set of criteria for daylilies and other plants is a little different then the cooler summer regions of the country where 90 degrees in summer is considered an exceptionally hot day. Here when it's 90 in July/August etc. the weatherman calls it a "cool down"-lol..........Nancy and Kate: I do like Rethink Pink. The color differentiation is not as dramatic as the hybridizers pictures, especially as the day wears on here, but it always looks good to me. What I've liked in the 1/2 dozen blooms I've seen so far, is that the form holds. Haven't seen much of the flopping petal problem at all. But we will see........... Kay: thanks for the compliments. There is a real range of color in daylilies, so everyone can have their favorites. I've been spoiled on the color red by growing roses. To me they will always capture top honors in the red department. Sometimes however, a daylily red will be pretty in it's own right............Nan and Mantis: Better Than Ice Cream was hybridized by Thomas Tew. I believe the popular daylily of the same name was named after him. He's now out of the daylily business (from what I understand) in order to concentrate on his landscaping business..........At noon today it was 79 degrees. I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. These rain fronts are really doing us a favor and I send my little bit of Heaven eastward to you all and hope everyone gets something out of it (except the wind and hail they have predicted for us tonight)..................Maryl

My Buzz Saw was usually a very light yellow after a day in the sun. I grew it for seven to eight years in a pot and gave it away the year I had breast cancer surgery and could not water pots.

Where did you get your Rethink Pink? It's relatively new.

Mantis: Cottage Gardens in New York....... I'm always interested in Norris daylilies and how they perform. Had Blushing Escapade been by anyone other then Norris, it would have been just another pale pink to me. A color I don't need unless there is something else special about it............Maryl
