The seedlings are sooooo nice! Is it too soon to tell if yhese will truly be lates? it would be great if they are. Such great edges on both of the white seedlings. I like the color, shape and pattern on the Hemsholic seedling.

Sherry - It's too soon to tell if these are really late bloomers, especially when things are blooming out of order this year. But I do feel that the Hemaholic and August Frost X Winter's Angel seedling will be, mainly because those parents are late bloomers in my garden. The other two may or may not be lates. I will know for sure next year.

Bluegrass Shadows looks splendid in your photo. Great edge. Is it "chicken fat"? Hard to find many with the fat or bubble type edge around anymore......I think Green Mystique is my favorite today the edge going to scentiment. As you know it was one of my first "fancy" daylilies and survived my inexperience in a pot for years..........And it dawned on me the other day that you may have said that all the Gypsy cats you named many of your dayliles after have vanished now. Only Cowgirl remains as an inside cat. Did I misunderstand that?.........Maryl

I am really liking your white seedlings. Although I have lots of vivid flamboyant colors I also have lots of near whites. I like their purity and coolness in the garden. And what’s better than whites with ruffles? I still like Orchid Linen and that is terrific color on Tiffany Shade.

I am on vacation for a week and am hoping I don't return to deer eaten gardens. Although I sprayed before I left, thunderstorms have rolled through 3 times since I left.

Kate - I like the white daylilies for their cooling effect too. Orchid Linen has been behaving for several days. Hope the deer stay out of your gardens while you're away.

Maryl - The later edges on Bluegrass Shadows are cream white and gold. There is so little gold on it that I don't know that I would call it chicken fat.

We lost Zuzu three summers ago to a coyote attack. That was confirmed by neighbors who found his body six blocks away. The coyote population has increased as the deer population has. Coco vanished in Spring 2022, and I would guess she met the same fate. Sammy, the black cat who was the wariest of all, disappeared last September. She was my husband's favorite, and he drove the neighborhoods looking for her and posting photos and info about her, but we never heard anything. Now the only cat we feed outside is their mother, Tuxie, who stays here part-time.

Kay - Thanks for your comments. Tiffany Shade is always short and the color is a weird one. It photographs better than it looks in person. Even though it blooms so late, it will probably be on my move-out list.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of companions. That's the risk you take with outside cats. I worried myself sick over Yardley (my garden cat) being outside during the day (we always brought him in at night). We don't have Coyotes here, but we do have stray dogs and other cats occasionally, and busy streets (which claimed the life of one of my cats before him). It makes your daylilies named after them all the more poignant. I hope Tuxi manages to live a long life with you all despite the dangers..................Maryl

Maryl - We really miss the Gypsy cats. Mom Tuxie is at least 14 years old now. We brought her inside for a week when temps went so low last December. She tore up quite a bit in our storage room, but settled down after three days and seemed pretty content there. At least I know I can get her back in if this next winter is bad.

So sad to hear about the cats. I can relate to posting signs and driving for blocks (even to neighboring towns). Bite of the Apple took a good photo.

Mantis - It is puzzling when pets just disappear and there is no closure. But Zuzu, Coco and Sammy survived between 10-12 years as outside cats, and that's beating the odds. Cowgirl is still thriving as a 13-year-old, and Tuxie is pretty spry for a 14-year-old cat.

Tiffany Shade is really very pretty. I love the color. You have a lot of nice rounded ones. Your white seedling is very nice.

Having outdoor cats is a risk but to me it is worth it. Cats are so much happier outside. Fortunately most of our have lived long full lives outside. Only one died young, and he was a fighter and a super hunter. He was our first living here, and he cleaned out the large snake, squirrel, chipmunk, rabbit, mole and mouse population rather quickly. He may have tried to bring something down too strong for him. Our current cat is lax on the moles, unfortunately.
