This is the correct height as shown in the specs to maximize the ability of the hood to exhaust cooking fumes by installing the microwave as close to the cooktop as possible.

Because if you'd bought a standard-height microwave -- example specs -- it would have hung closer to the cooktop because it is 5-6" taller.

Remember to convert the oven from recirculating to vented before installing it!

Thank you. I think I’m just going to get a full height microwave installed with the 24” upper. That should leave me flush with the flanking cabinet bottoms. The slimline at this point has no benefit. Might just be aggravating for the new homeowners having something smaller.

As shown in the specs*, the advantage of the low-profile model is that, at 18-5/8" it is deeper than the standard model which is only 15-7/8" deep. So the low-profile model covers nearly 3" more of the cooktop than the example standard model. The low-profile model also allows you to have a taller cabinet above it which (a) will have more room for stuff and (b) will be lower and easier to reach. I'd stick with the low-profile.

My customer did one....the specs said to have it lower than we actually did. I think this is 55.5" to 57" off the floor. I can't recall. The homeowner picked it out and at first was freaked out about how bulky it looked. But once we moved the range in place and installed the countertops, it all came together.

One should always use a measurement from the floor or cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet to which the oven is attached and clearly state which. Writing, '55.5" to 57" off the floor' doesn't tell the reader whether the measurement is to the bottom of the cabinet (too low for this model) or bottom of the oven (ok).

If the bottom of your wall cabinets is at 18" which is the usuall there is no way in heck that MW can go there wether you want it or not. A hood or MW still needs to be 30" above the range to the bottom of the hood . If you have a the ability to vent to the outside why on earth a MW at all . IMO 66" to the top of the MW is still too close to the cooktop

Actually the Whirlpool and KitchenAid (pictured) low-profile OTR ovens require only 24" above the cooktop, 60" above the floor.

My client (photo above) chose this microwave. It was my first time doing a kitchen with a slim over range microwave. When I checked the specs, it said this (this is a copy/paste from the spec manual):

*24” (61 cm) is typical for 60” (152.4 cm) installation height Exact dimensions may vary depending on type of range/ cooktop below.

The line drawing that came with that note above, showed that from the range to the bottom of the wall cabinet = 24"....and from floor to the cabinet is 60". So this puts it LOWER than the wall cabinets. This was ludicrous to me. I raised it up to 66" to the top of the microwave.

The line drawing doesn't even make sense here...this can't be right. Pretty Sure I posted about this a year or two ago when i was working on the kitchen pic above.

So, for those that have this microwave....what is your height from FLOOR to the BOTTOM of the cabinet? How is it to work in?
