If you want a very tall, very vigorous, very loud phlox, go for 'Robert Poore'. Bright magenta, can get to 5'. I planted it 19 years ago, moved it to a new location and will be dividing it this fall. It's just starting to bloom so I'll post a picture in a week.

I love Blue Paradise, I have three in my foundation garden, One of them is being crowded by Siberian iris, poppies and catmint and it still manages to bloom.

We have had Cleopatra for several years. I like it very much and I noticed the other day flowers buds. The problem is that it doesnt get enough sun and so is floppy :(.

(The only other phlox we have is "Blue Paradise". And like @a2zmom_Z6_NJ we like it lots.)

Honestly, other than just a few varieties, I really haven't been much overly impressed with them in general even some of the touted newest varieties, only a few seem to have a nice decent prolonged display.

3-4 years ago I bought Glamour Girl, Flame Coral, and Hercules. Hercules was a DUD--it did make huge flowers the first year, but then it wimped out. Glamour Girl and Flame Corla are thriving and growing enough that I am dividing them this year. I'm very happy with them.

One nurseru in our area is carrying the Volcano series of tall phlox . Never heard of it but surely didn't buy any in case it was like Hercules!

My stalwart never ever mildewed strong stemmed always- show -up varieties are ”Bright Eyes” and “Dodo Hansburty-Forbes”. i personally dont like ”David” close- up in a small bed but viewed from across a lawn he’ s impressive. Up close theres no mildew, it is strong stemmed. Up close, as well, David is boring big blobs of flat white panicles.

Now i get to plug the one few have heard of (except the professionals here) not-paniculata ”Minnie Pearl”

who’s been blooming a month, never mildews, spreads happily and is still going as the early tall phlox are coming into bloom. I dont know if i deadhead it whether there will be a rebloom.

i am sure I'm underestimating Blue Paradise . It has disliked extremes of weather. Last year it faultered and yellowed during our drought (of course i watered it)

and this year it has looked fungal during our three week biblical deluges. To its credit it lived through a drought, a terrible open winter, a weird spring and very wet early summer. iI we had a ”normal” seasonal year maybe i’d get to see why quite a few people are enthralled. As it is I find it hard to site because its colors keep changing. It would look good, I think, with another white phlox just a a bit taller with dark green foliage. Would ”Fashionably Early” white phlox work”?

( i say ” dark green foliage because many phlox i see at nurseries have anemic light green stems foliage. I dont know if thats pot culture, stress or a characteristic of that plant.

Id be happy to assess Cleopatra if i could find it locally. It is Gone from bricks and mortar nurseries near me. id have to collect a large order to justify ordering by mail.
