Another heptacodium update!

In May and again in June I had posted pictures etc. re the winterkill (?) damage and the subsequent pruning of dead wood on the heptacodium tree in the front garden. I had expressed hope that new shoot(s) would appear at/near a pruning site to give hope for replacement growth... This morning I noticed this:

and flowerbuds are starting to appear at the top of the tree:

(It normally doesn't bloom until around the beginning of September so I'm not sure if the flowerbuds are early this year or whether I've just not paid attention to how early the buds appear in the past....)

So, fingers firmly crossed that the tree recovers thoroughly from the damage it was showing this spring!

Good luck! I had a tremendous amount of winter damage this year also.

cyn - DH says there is a second shoot below it that was too small yet to show in the picture he took! :-)

Another update! The pictura below was taken from the front porch this morning. The surviving parts of the heptacodium tree started blooming fairly well beginning yesterday. Now we just need some monarch butterflies to drop by on their migration - but we haven't seen many butterflies so far this year so I suspect we are in for another poor monarch year. Last year was very bad too :-(

(Something odd has happened to the software to download pictures from to camera - amongst other things I can't figure out how to rotate this a bit so the arbour is properly standing up straight in the photo!)
