backyard flooring choice

I have a tiny (250sq ft) concrete area out back I wanted to improve upon. The concrete is cracked and ugly. There are surrounding trees that drop leaves and pollen and other tree debris. I live in New York. I love the trees but there is a lot of spring/fall clean up. I was thinking of trying some of the new plastic click-together tiles but am scared of the tree debris getting into the crevices and preventing water runoff. Any ideas for me?
Thanks

We used recycled rubber tire pavers. Easy to lay down and soft and forgiving under foot. Perfect for uneven surfaces since they are pliable. Light weight and easy to transport. They come with U clips to hold them in place if you need to.

Ours are from Home Depot, about 1/2 inch thick. 10 years and no wear...still pliable and look good. Hose or sweep clean. Different colors.

Thanks for responding. How does it work with the tree debris getting in the cracks? That’s my big fear. I hate my concrete it’s ugly but it washes fairly clean. I just worry something prettier will get all that debris stuck in it and I’ll have even more work.

No debris cause we used the clips and they hold the pieces tight. I'm looking for that type for you and so far no luck. They have the interlocking ones for gyms and garages easy to find for outdoors.

Thanks. I’ll see if I can find this product online or something similar.

We had cracked uneven concrete and I filled the cracks with a bag of DIY asphalt patch...it is sticky black gravel that you pound into the cracks and even them out. Ugly yes but effective. Then use concrete stain to darken all the concrete quite a bit. It helps camo the patches.

Not ideal but there is really nothing intrinsically wrong about a patched surface, and with furniture and an outdoor rug, no one will notice but you and who cares...it's a serviceable patio.

P.S. If you stain, spray in a random pattern, and two coats. if you spray in parallel sweeps it shows...you want mottled. And our cracks were big....for hairline cracks I would ignore or use caulk.

Thanks. I thought about keeping the concrete but I’m just tired of the look I want something new and fun!

Then stain, they come in many colors....that would be fun lol! What about a carpet or compass stencil in stain. My DH did a fab sun and stars in yellows and blues on back porch and a compass point in earth tones that takes up the front porch - all with concrete stain and painter's tape....now THAT is fun!

P.S. Re: Asphalt patch...I forgot to mention...after I did mine, the City came by and did the exact same thing to the sidewalk in front where it was broken. Only difference is they sprinkled fine gray sand on the new patch so when everything set it was nearly invisible. I'm like duh, wish i thought of that.
