I should add that this is new construction, installing over a concrete level floor. Product is backed for sound proofing & waterproofing.

I didn’t have a contractor because we acted as owner general contractor while building our house. The local supplier where I got the flooring from installed it for us. His estimate was $3 per square foot, and an extra $1 per Sqf for leveling. But then we changed our mind and went with engineered wood, $4 per Sqf plus 1$ for leveling. If you have huge open area then he might have to glue some in the middle.

My material is $3 per sq ft. Tilebar does not install so that’s not an option for me.

No, just the installation cost was $3 per Sqf, ask you tile installer if he know a good flooring installer.

Ok thx. My builder got a quote from the hard wood floor guy. This is made like a diy option, large planks, easy to install. I’d like to pay a handyman to do it…not a skilled specialist. $5 a sq ft to install is more than double what they quoted me.

The installation plus the leveling was $4, the material for vinyl was $4 per sq ft (provenza Sweet talker).

So the handyman will charge you 2$ per square foot without the leveling? Comparing to me (I paid $3 per square foot) that is a good price. Ask the installer for a reference and make sure the floor is leveled properly.

I hear you, I’m under the impression (could be wrong) that the floor is leveled and ready for flooring. No one has mentioned any prep work. It’s a floating floor. We did not receive a written quote just a verbal number passed along thru his friend, our builder. Happens to go over the allowance of course. I guess at a minimum we should request a written quote.

Oh, I forgot to mention You'll typically need a vapor barrier if you're installing flooring over concrete.

My husband and brother laid a floating floor 20 years ago in the concrete basement of my 1890s Victorian with no prep work or leveling and we never had any issues. Was a cheaper material too.

He planned for vinyl floating floor.

I know, that’s what we’ve said. He’d have had to pay someone to install anyway & we are using “his guy”. He says the allowance was for installed. Our material is $3 per sq ft, low end so the labor should be covered. He’s saying that our material makes it go over…I’m just trying to do some due diligence to understand what typical installation costs would be. Thanks for weighing in.
