Hummingbird Garden

Fewer Hummingbirds This Year

We have had record rain this past year along the coast in southern California. We also have considerably fewer hummingbirds this year. i wonder if there is any connection. With all our rain, we should have lots more blooming wildflowers, but i dont really notice that around here.

The CA wildflower season has been the source of various news reports over the past few months, with most calling it "Superbloom 2023". I'm surprised you missed this.

Although we had a wetter than usual spring, it was nothing like your rainfall but it did nothing to deter the hummers. Along the northern Pacific coast, they are just as plentiful as they usually are.

I live in coastal So Cal also, we have lots of hummingbirds this year. I thought it was because of a feeder I added several months ago, however, I’ve noticed they’re more interested in the blooms on our lemon tree now, they love it.
