Design Dilemma Kitchens

induction cooktop ventilation

I would like to install an induction cooktop in my new remodeled kitchen. Should I stick the cooktop in the island or in cabinet against an outside wall? The kitchen has a very high sloped ceiling, so if the cooktop were located in the island, there would be a long vent, which I am worried would be an eyesore. I have read that it is best to vent and that recirculating and down-draft ventilation fans do not work very well.

Put the cooktop on the wall. More effective for ventilation, and a far less problematic location.

Outside wall without a doubt. Downdrafts are essentially ineffective. Recirculation is worse. Hundred of posts discuss cooktop ventilation so you can search for recommendations for proper setup and sizing. Having a large capture area for the hood is ideal.
