Why wouldn't you put site finished hardwood in the bedrooms too?

Pick red oak and have it stained to match your current floors.

You'll degrade the home value by having similar wood floors that don't quite match, and not because one is site finished versus engineered.

Opting for EHW mainly for cost. And I’m told since the solid HW is thicker, the transition won’t be flat. They’ve shown me wedge-shaped transition pieces that I don’t love. Convention in my area is carpet in all the bedrooms- and comps have sold that way. Hard to believe adding hardwood would decrease value over carpet. But seems carpet is preferred in this area, esp for 2nd floor. Though some newer homes have hardwood. so I’m curious.

IMO bedroom floors often do not match the flooring in the rest of the house and I do not think the engineered will be a bad thing you can get it unfinished and have it stained to match A biiger deal for me is thta the stairs match the lower level .BTW any har floor is IMO an upgrade form carpet always.
