If you want true help you need true measurments for the space.

Unfortunately, I’m in Georgia and the space is in CA. I’ll be getting measurments of the current sectional, it seems to fit well. Im hoping those measurements will help🤞🏻

Obviously, this is not your furniture, correct? But it does permit you to see the limitations of the sectional, especially with the off-set fireplace. I would think in terms of zones. How will you use the space? Dining? TV watching, only? Reading? Like Patricia Colwell Consulting, I think a sofa and chairs will provide you with more living space and seating, without a WALL of sofa blocking access to parts of the room as the sectional shown in the room does. (It almost looks like a separate box inside a large room!). Wait and see the space before buying anything! And…I think an area rug will be a must to anchor your space.

The sloped ceiling and angled walls feel overbearing. Paint the walls and ceilings the same white to downplay the architecture. Paint the baseboard same color.

Paint the window and door trim an accent color that complements the floors and brick. With that and the fireplace it will draw the eye down.

Add an area rug as suggested...largest that will fit comfortably.... to neutralize the flooring and unify the space.

Yes, I totally agree, it desperately needs a big area rug. I’ve never worked with angled walls before, how do I go about hanging art when it’s time?

Art over the mantel and over the entry table. Not on the angled wall in here.

I kinda like the ladder on the angled wall...but with wall mount open shelf unit or floor piece. And for books and magazines, not decor.

And I kinda like the mirror reflecting the window but it's a little small. How about a couple more? We are still in concept phase here...just thinking.

Reconsider the idea of a sectional. Wait until you can post EXACT measurements. Patricia gave you the right argument against sectionals. Don’t order anything!

It’s hard not to start fantasizing layouts and colors before you move, but other than a neutral whole house paint job, I wouldn’t do anything until you are in the space. One, you will get better (free + professional) help from Houzzers that are amazing at furniture layouts. Two, you will have a better feel of the house. Three, you’ll avoid expensive furniture mistakes.

Start some inspiration room folders here. You will easily realize what you like. My Houzz photos of kitchens absolutely helped me create the one I eventually built. It looked just like the photos I repeatedly saved.

Yes, I have definitely reconsidered the sectional. Can’t wait to get there and post some measurements. Do you have any suggested how to address a TV along with some art on that angled wall? Thanks for your help.

Keep in mind..the TV will be easier to view if it does not face the windows..where the reflection will hamper viewing in the daylight hours..the fireplace wall is a good candidate…however the fireplace..iMO would be more attractive if painted or washed white….

Also due to the overpowering presence of the flooring … I would add large area rugs to define the living spaces better …and diminish the dominant flooring pattern a little..using a deeper pile in tv area and a thinner rug in other areas…where they could be a tripping hazard

It would be prudent to keep the major pieces neutral, and bring in the color with accessories and paint.

It would be nice if I could hang the TV over the fireplace, but not sure that is an option. Also like the idea of painting or white washing the fireplace. If I painted the walls white, would white washing the fireplace be too much white? Love all the ideas that are coming in. Definetely NOT getting a sectional!

Painting all the walls and fireplace white will allow all those architectural angles and heights to recede a little…not to be distracting from the new decor and furnishings..especially since your taste leans more to timeless and classic

I would also move the little shelf down closer to fireplace opening (if you love it)… but ideally… remove it for more flexibility on what you can do with that space ..going forward…what bothers me most about stone faces like that..is that they are obviously fake treatments…painting it plays that down a little

The requirements for a move in are these:

BED/ ( by this I mean the mattress and something on which to place it. ) bed linens Chair. Clothing. Wine, Coffee, Food. Wifi, Ipad. Toilet paper and grooming essentials.

That's it.

Buy nothing until you get there. Until you measure the entire space, and accurately.

Until you have gathered some inspo pics as to how you want it to feel.

Oh but Jan patience is by worst virtue😜, but seriously, you are correct!! To reiterate, all of the belongings in the photos are not mine, it will be a blank slate when I move in. So far my plans will be to paint and then find furniture and a ginormous rug! I would love it if someone could post a mark up of a furniture layout. Thanks again to everyone for your help!!! So I’d like to give the owner of the property some paint options when I see him next, I’d love a nice nuetral white, here are a few that I’m familiar with. Do you think one of them will work? How will I know???

Paint...... you WON'T know. You aren't in the space. No law says you can't paint while LIVING in the empty space .

But since its a white, I thought I could bring some of those big samples with me and look at them the next time I’m there. I’d really love to get it painted before I move in.

I have a pet peeve against SW Alabaster...yes it's popular but it can have an odd yellow/green undertone. It did in my house and I have heard others on this forum say the same.

Your furnishings will be cool tones...select a cool toned white or color accordingly.

Also does the room get morning light or afternoon light? That makes a difference in how wall and ceiling color is perceived.

You'll tie everything together with the rug going this route.

Samplize is your friend. But knowing the undertones of the different whites will help you make a decision IN THE SPACE. Hard to advise when we don’t know how the light is in those rooms.

It's all about the floors...no one can recommend what pairs with the floors from a monitor. If they do they're guessing.

If you want a bright pure white look at Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.
