My favorite is thai basil, but it doesn't grow as well for me as the Italian sweet basil, which is the only type I've been growing lately.

Will try the lemon basil next year , sounds very good!

The large leaf basil (Genovese?) is my fave now too. I've grown lemon basil, purple and cinnamon too, but that was long time ago now. I used to put lemon basil in tuna salad.

The Italian basil. We grow it (and tomatoes) every summer and make mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes crepes. It’s what we had for dinner tonight. Yum!

I grow basil on my balcony each summer in homage to my grandmother, who grew it on her Bronx fire escape. My plant didn't do well this year. It was Italian basil, but it didn't grow very much and wasn't that fabulous dark green. We are making do, and hope that she will make it until tomato salad season is over. We named her "Audrey", because of Little Shop. She is a strange and unusual plant.

I bought a large pot of what was labeled "Italian basil" this year - it was very bushy and I transplanted it to an even larger pot in full sun. I've been harvesting it carefully down to new leaves and it's been the greatest performer I've ever had. It's never bolted to flower, it loves where it's living and I hope to have it until frost. We've been eating it with tomatoes and with corn salads - there is a ton of it. Pesto here we come!! I'll put portions of it in the freezer for the winter.

My favorite is any the snails don't eat.

No favorite since I've only ever grown one type at a time. It all tastes the same to me because I don't have more than one to compare it to.

We’ve only grown sweet/Genovese basil that works nicely for me.

I love opal basil with yellow or purple flowers in the garden.

I love to rub cinnamon basil. I don't think I even eat it? It just smells so pretty!

To eat? Genovese most of the time, but if it's a spicy dish, I prefer the bite of Thai.

Plain old Italian stuff. I crop it regularly, make pesto and freeze it for the grey months.

Definitely Thai! I use it in Italian and Thai dishes.

In the months I can't grow it I buy it at the Asian market and keep the stems in water on the counter. They usually last a few weeks.

I like them all with the exceptions of the medicinal camphory types.

Really been liking the flavor of Aromatto. We have had a very wet summer and it did struggle a bit with that. But so did many other plants.

Right now I have Genovese, Thai and Lemon basil growing. I like the Lemon best, it just smells so good, but I use the Genovese the most. They all did wonderfully this year, so I have a lot of all the kinds. I don't know what in the heck I'm going to do with all that Thai basil, but the bees are loving it, so it's all good.
