wolf range induction top beeping when cleaning

I recently purchased a Wolf Induction Range. Before cleaning, I lock the controls as the user manual instructs. When wiping with a damp cloth it goes into a beeping frenzy as I wipe. Is this normal? I certainly can't clean up any cooking splatters within the control area during cooking as that will really cause the controls to go haywire.

My Wolf cooktop beeps if I wipe up splatter. You learn to ignore it. If I dab at it lightly it beeps less if at all. If you need to reset the controls, it only takes a second.

Funny, I was just double checking this before posting. I wiped the control area with a dry microfiber cloth. Would not beep no matter how much I tried. Used a damp cloth & it set off the beeping.

ok good to know. I'm surprised they don't suppress the beeping when locked. It would be an easy fix. Learning to ignore it is poor a design decision. I wonder how other brands work in regards to this. Do they all beep with wet cloths?

On another note: Has any ever seen the wolf range update or request to update its OS? Every product I've owned with an OS has requested to check for the latest updates when I plug it in. I haven't seen this or even a Check Latest option. I would have expected even the occasional update to their recipes.

I think all touch controls dislike water & irregular movement, if I recall correctly from my researching induction cooktops several years ago.

In the user's manual, there are instructions on how to adjust the beep volume. Haven't tried it myself, but perhaps the lowest volume setting is OFF.

Learning to ignore: after some experience you learn that the beeping doesn't really mean anything while you're wiping the controls. Or perhaps you come to expect it. I just don't pay any attention anymore. I like to clean the cooktop while cooking, if needed, & if it beeps, it's over as fast as it begins.

Also, when you get to know your induction better, you find the heat level that allows for a gentle boil but doesn't splatter liquid so much. Induction is so even & steady that you can turn the heat down a notch for a good consistent gentle boil

And you learn to be careful about lifting lids so the condensation falls back into the pot, then setting the lid on the counter if needed. Broke my old habit of holding a lid over the cooktop while checking the pot, dribbling moisture all over. Also learned to be more careful with a salt shaker -- those crystals go everywhere!

I'm actually loving the induction cooking itself, I had a gas range before this and it's like going from a Datson to a Tesla. I can't believe I waited this long . And the oven cooks beautifully. The stone setting makes incredible pizza. There's just a few things they could iron out. I actually called them to ask about updates (doesn't sound like they push any out unless it's a dire issue) but also passed on a few suggestions for user experience.
