Jennifer, thanks for starting the thread. This has been a nice day, my min/max shows that we have had a high of 92 today, the temp has started back down now.

Madge has been out picking tomatoes, we have very few green ones left, and we really don't need the ripe ones Madge is picking, but we want to keep a few plants going till frost, so that we still have to pick and water a few. I fret over having so few small tomatoes, but it has been so hot for so long we are lucky just to still have tomatoes. Nearly all the blooms have been falling off.

Jennifer are starting tomatoes for your greenhouse? I am afraid that I would not be able to get any tomatoes if I planted this late, but I don't use row covers, and don't have a greenhouse.

I do have ground ready to plant greens of different kinds, but getting ground ready is the easiest part of gardening for me. I have been going through my seeds, and as always, I have more seeds than I have a place to put them, and most of what I plant well be turned in as a green manure crop anyway.

My ground is really dry, I have been hauling water, but the ground is soaking it up like a sponge.

I felt so much better today so I'm guessing my issue is the weather after all.

Anyway....

Larry, the "fall" tomatoes are ones that I saved seed from the heirloom spring tomatoes. I wanted to see if I saved the seed "correctly" and that the would germinate. They did! Yay! But, more than likely they won't have time to produce. I planted them anyways. They aren't in the hoop house. They are in the kitchen garden. They've been outside for most of their "lives" so are hardened off.

Our high was 88 or 89, but it felt like 93. Much better, tho. I can deal with that.

I really, really enjoyed the day. Got the golden beets, carrots, and market turnips sown. And those "fall" tomatoes in. Had to clear off some space and it's done. I feel really good about it.

It was a nice day. The neighborhood was active for sure. It's so nice when the temps are decent and people can get out and enjoy life. Our neighbors across the street are entertaining. I won't got into all of it....but they really enjoyed when Bang Your Head came on their radio (which is really loud and we can all hear it). Ask, Rick. He got to "enjoy" it too.

Rick cleared off some stuff and also planted fall things.

I pulled two okra pods that were dried and cracked. There were 113 seeds in those two pods. They are Beck's Big Buck.

Fall planting is finally under way. ( as long as this 100+ A-hole weather will cooperate , probably fog horn).

Planted some green beans about a week late according to OSU.

Planted some green peas , about the right time.

Planted a little carrot ,beet , rutabaga , Swiss Chard .

That's only the start of it.

Still got spinach , kale , collard , mustard , several varieties of turnips ,

Maybe some lettuce..., Kohlrabi ,... and broccoli ,cabbage ...

I still have not planted anything, it seem really hard to get in the mood, but I have been working on spots to plant food, but its too dry to plant any cover crops. I cant handle the dust that the equipment would stir up, and it is too dry for the seeds to germinate anyway. The deer really need the food plots more in late winter anyway, which gives me a little more time.

My min/max shows that the temp got down to 64 last night, those are my kind of nights.

Jennifer the cooler nights must have let some of my tomato blooms set, It looks like I may have a few green tomatoes to pickle, maybe even a few ripe ones to eat, although I still have not emptied my vines of green summer tomatoes.

I did get my onion bed cleaned up and watered. I will try to toss a little nitrogen on them in a few days. I watered the peppers well and tossed a little 10-20-10 around them before watering, hoping that it will increase my fall harvest, I nearly always have people asking if I have and extra tomatoes and jalapenos in the fall.

I have worked on cleaning up some of my sweet potato bed, but I am afraid that if is too little too late. I expect to have plenty for slips next year, but I am not sure of my food supply.

Madge has some Anasazi beans ready to cook, I ask her to save a few for seeds for me to plant next summer. Have any of you tried to grow these beans, I have never heard of them, but was told that they should be grown over 5000 ft., is there any knowledge you can pass on to me? I will have to pile on about 4500 feet of top soil to get my garden above 5000 feet. If I cant grow them at 500+ feet I will pass, I don't think I am up to 4500 foot climb each day.

Those beans sound interesting, Larry. Never heard of them, but want to look them up now. Sound like a good challenge for you, Larry.

Being Tuesday, I have the day off. It was nice this morning here too. A low of 65 for us. I spent the morning outdoors. Got some stuff watered (will it ever end?!) and some weeding done. Harvested some okra for dinner tonight. And the jalapenos. I sure would like to make pepper sauce today but will probably run out of time.

I'm in now and will need to finish laundry, clean cat boxes, and water house plants. All of my Tuesday chores.

I weighed them on my kitchen scale in ounces, but it doesn't seem to line up with what the seed companies say is in a package of seed. (approx seed amounts).

I save most of my seeds in medicine bottles. The medicine bottles I use to store okra seeds hold a little over 4 oz of water, I have no idea how many seeds that is, but I have at least 6 bottles, which is too many.

Jennifer, we had some of the Anasazi bean for lunch. We will have to try them again, it is really hard for us to judge the taste of anything, we are old, and nothing taste really good. I do want to grow the beans next year, just to say that I did it. I will sneak a few beans out and plant them just to see if they will germinate. These beans were grown for market, and I hope nothing has been done to them to stop them from germinating.

Jennifer, I HATE it when I accidentally leave the water on all night. . . water meter is going ka-ching, ka-ching. I've only done it once (so far) this year.

Since I didn't get tomatoes in until June 1, they'll serve nicely as fall tomatoes. And to my delight, with a nice mulch of straw, they stayed healthy and happy all summer--they're in great shape. I may have to axe the Egg Yolk--it's only one plant but produces obnoxiously heavily. How many sweet cherry tomatoes can one eat, anyway! And I can't recommend the Balkonzauber determinate highly enough, but just based on this year; first time I've tried it. Says it dies when it's done, but it's still going strong, so not sure when it'll be done. The tomatoes are small--about 1.5" in diameter, but tasty enough--a nice size to cut in half for salads, and more like romas, thick-walled.

And I've also about had it with the Sugar Rush Peach hot peppers. . . another heavy producer. Equally productive is the mini bell--some are really too small--but very productive.

I'm holding off on sowing the fall cool weather things. Sometime in September.

Most of us have left water running by accident, I’ve left it running in garden and also in stock tanks. When you approach the area and see water standing your heart just drops! I keep a snap or a spring bracelet on several of my faucets and also try to remember to set an alarm on my phone to turn it off, but it still happens occasionally.

Nancy I am jealous that your tomatoes are still healthy and producing. I have the 3 new cherry tomatoes I bought and planted and about 4 more that are still alive. Alive is a very loose term, they look terrible and mangled - I’m just hoping they will come out enough to have a few fall toms. My pepper plants all look healthyand are blooming, with very few peppers. The exception is a Giant Marconi that is loaded with beautiful long peppers that taste amazing

Nancy, we have a well. If we didn't, we wouldn't be watering most of the garden. I would have to chose perennials and maybe a couple of other things to keep watered.

Luckily, we do have the well.

Thank you for the description and your experience with the peppers and tomatoes. Next year might be an experimental pepper year for me. It's been awhile since I've done that.

I watered early this morning, but will probably go out and do a bit more after dinner is finished cooking....which is about now.

Took it out of the oven--a crustless quiche. Bacon, spinach and mushroom. We're still doing the mostly Whole 30 food thing. Just not as strictly, so that's why the "crustless".

Tom went to the doctor and his A1C is down 2 points. His doctor is very pleased so he will be coming off some medicine now. Actually he hasn't taken any of it for over 2 weeks. His doc wants him to start taking one of them again. And then will recheck in 3 months...and possibly can come off of all of it.

Anyway....

Garden. The golden beets are popping up as are the market turnips. Carrots--not yet.

oh. Ethan had his interview today and it went very well. Now, he just waits to see if he is chosen. There were 6 people in his interview. He said they liked that he was in NHS and band. They liked his GPA in HS and at the community college and the technology center. They liked the portfolio he put together. He felt he answered the questions well. They were friendly, he said. Always a good thing.

Mason's MRI was clear. She is just waiting for her next neurology appt...and hopefully she will be cleared to drive and will never have another seizure.

Okay...I'm going out to start some more lettuce seed in cups. Maybe some arugula too.

And I'll pop a few sugar snow peas along one of the trellises.

We are losing daylight noticeably now.

Jennifer, I am glad test are good. I never paid any attention to my health, and it shows now. Madge is 4+ years older than I am, and seems to be in much better health, but she was raised to try to eat healthy, I ate anything I could get, and as much as I could find. My family never though about a healthy diet.

I am still prepping the garden for fall planting. I planted more onion bulbils yesterday. Heaven knows I don't need any more walking onions, but I just can't throw anything away.

I drug a few or my irrigation tubes from off the top of my shed to use to soak the ground before planting my fall seed. My tiller is at the shop getting new tires. I will start working the ground more if I can net my tiller home.

Here is a picture of my irrigation tube. I started using these about 20 years ago. At that time I grew a much better garden than I do now, but I had a very strong well at the old home place. These tubes have lasted very well, but the UV rays really damage the hoses I have attached to them. The most damage I have had to these tubes has been caused by my tractors. Tractors are nice, but you can tear up more stuff in 5 minutes than you can repair in a week, even with a small tractor.

Twenty years is a long time for your irrigation tubes to last, Larry. It's nice when things last.

Our shower/tub remodel continues to have issues. We had decided to put a tub back in because of existing plumbing lay-out. We even bought a tub last night. But, guess what? It won't fit through the bathroom door. It will fit through the bedroom door, but not bathroom door. Measuring is important, right? Tom cut the old tub in pieces.

So....now, we don't know what to do. Tom is taking the tub back right now although I told him to wait or he'll get caught in OU football traffic. In the fall, you really have to plan your trips into Norman....or get stuck in traffic. Hopefully most people are already at the stadium because the game is about to start. I'll just note here that I'm glad my life doesn't revolve around a football schedule in the fall. Some people get really angry if you plan weddings, BD parties, etc. on a game day.

Anyway...we're very discouraged about the shower. We really don't have it in our budget to hire plumbers and whatnot. I'm sure Tom can figure it out. The other bathroom was a booger too. But, with this one, chiseling out concrete might be necessary. UGH.

We really thought this one would be easy because everything is going back in the same place.

Something to consider when building or buying a house. Think about how things are laid out for future repairs and/or remodels. This shower/tub almost had to be done because the fixtures were breaking down. We weren't just trying to make it "cute". Don't build a room you can't fit new things through.

I jokingly told him I found an RV tub that would fit. He didn't like that idea.

I got up early and watered the things I didn't get watered last night. I'm happy to report that the bunching turnips and golden beets continue to sprout. I even saw a few (very few) carrots popping up. They're such divas. I've been wetting the area before work and in the evening.

Rick has things coming up in the SG too. Last night he put hoops up with shade cloth on it. It's gonna get hot again. Although the weather people said it won't feel as hot this time. The SG doesn't get much shade. The Kitchen Garden does in the afternoon/evening. But, it might still get a little hot for those little seedlings.

I picked my goji berries. I've never gotten more than a handful. There's not much more this time, but a few more. What do y'all do with goji berries?

Oklahoma Gardening is about to come on OETA. Does anyone else find the host's voice on it a bit annoying? Tom almost can't watch the show because of her voice. She's a cutie and seems as sweet as can be, tho.

Trying to decide what to do with my day. We had planned on installing that tub. We'll do the grocery shopping tonight after the game....to avoid the traffic.
