Exterior Paint Opinions

last modified: 3 years ago

Hi, I am looking to paint the exterior of our raised ranch (no garage) that Really needs a facelift! Will use Ben Moore paint so BM colors preferred but not totally opposed to SW colors.

I'm considering green--such as Aegean Olive and Boreal Forest. What do you think? I like these but not getting "That's the one!" yet when I see on other homes online.

I do not want blue as it's been Philipsburg blue for many, many years and faded now. Color that goes with the wooded backyard or something else that's really different. Lots of color with flower gardens also out back.

I considered two tone in the front to try and dress it up a little as there's nothing exciting about this style home but won't do that if I find the right color, as finding 1 color is difficult enough for me. Roof is gray, the front gets full sun but still prefer a darker color.

Leaning toward black or brown shutters (different style) and a red door, but that's tbd later. See link:

Thanks so much for feedback or any recommendations.

First remove the those shutters there is no way they belong on those windows. I know you Americans are rah rah about the flag but honestly one flag flying is enough . I think the greens can work or almost any color. I think you need much larger flower beds and planted with both perennials and some annual for color

It is a holiday weekend so the flags are likely temporary.

Thanks for the comments. Ha ha to the rah rah-- I guess we could paint every other siding board red and white, put some blue shades and star window clings on the triple window. Yes, we're obviously very patriotic, always and with good reason, also celebrating the American worker this weekend. Just painting for now--no structural or landscaping changes in front at this time. I already took the shutters down and like it without them. I was just looking for some color feedback. I got on the ben moore visualizer and got some samples so will go from there--appreciate the input and replies.

How about something like this exterior: one tone/two textures look?

Sage green, but the lower lever has applied stone in the same color.

How about this color for front door, and storm and sidelights?

“I already took the shutters down and like it without them.”

    Smart!

I think elcieg’s example with gray/green with the stone would be nice. White trim and door, but a navy door could also be nice.

Whatever you decide, paint the downspouts the same color as the siding.

BM Saybrook Sage is also the color in the pic I posted.

For some reason I can't "like" @ShadyWillowFarm's comment.

Our town's Fourth of July parade brings tears to my eyes to see all the bystanders cheering, saluting, putting hand over heart.

I had Saybrook Sage on my last house so I can recommend it also. :-)

Are you sure you want to go that dark? Here are some mid-depth options:

These are some other options from Ben Moore if you prefer darker. I like the Herb Bouquet.

This is another example with Saybrook Sage, white trim and a gray roof.
