According to this picture you have it right, but I agree yours does look odd. I think it's a good idea to add a blind.

I think this is an instance where a hard follow of “the rule” doesn’t work. I’d lower the curtain rod halfway between where it is now and the top of the window trim, so that patch of wall you see below the rod is more in size-line with the patch of wall between the bottom of the window and the top of the baseboard.

Hit post too soon…I wouldn’t just add things, like a blind, to try to make something that doesn’t really work, work better. Accentuate the window you have.

Lower the rod and shorten the curtain. I understand the concept of the classic rule, but your ratio of space between the top of the window frame and your ceiling seems really large and I don't think the rule looks great in this instance.

Love your pic. It's a perfect example for why the rule above is soooo bogus! All that space between the wood trim and rod looks RIDICULOUS. This rule 'works' in rooms where the curtains are not operable. They are an illusion of what's not there. Since it's a bedroom all you need to do is keep them closed and the illusion you seek will appear. Otherwise hem them up, lower the rod to just above the windowframe and widen it just enough that the stack doesn't block your view when they are open.

A few issues stand out to me, in addition to having to lower the rod.

Suggest a thiner, more modern rod and due to the narrow window/corner in general, I think placing drapes on one side and even adding wider molding above window would help with proportions. If mirror could go elsewhere, that may help as well and add a chair, which will be a lower focal point.

Or….add visual weight by drawing the eyes down with a blind; placed on window or just below rod.

If open to remaking drapes to a roman blind, or moving to another room and buying new, it solves all the balance issues.
