Exquisitely beautiful, GH!! Mine is not nearly so fabulous, even on a good day. And lately it’s been besieged by sawfly larvae and leafhoppers. :-(

Mine tends to attract jap beetles but so far not this year. It did get little floppy though due to the heavy rains…

That is gorgeous!! I had a white with a pink eye for over 35 years...it did not show up this year and I miss it. I had a really good run with it.

Corgi yours is equally beautiful. I haven't had a hibiscus in years. I lost a Lord Baltimore 15 or more years ago and haven't replaced it. I did plant a hibiscus in my daughter's new garden that is blooming now. Not sure what it is but it's a lovely pastel pink with a darker eye. Although she lives right down the street she doesn't seem to have the sawfly larvae that I always battled. Hers is making me think about trying again.

GardenHo, that is gorgeous! I have two hardy hibiscus that I grew from seed, as a curiosity, but tropical looking plants have never done much for me. Yours is especially pretty with the lighter pink sedum in front.

Wow peren 35 years!?! Makes you wonder what happened…or did it just reach its life span? Sad either way…

Dee those burgandy foliage ones have tempted me many times. But I always come to my senses when I think about having to remove existing plants to accommodate one lol.

Party good for you for growing from seed! That seems like such an accomplishment being such a large plant. Did you collect the seed yourself or purchase it? The sedum was not a planned combo, and I like it also thanks.

GardenHo, I love your Hibiscus, that photo of the 3 blooms together, the blooms are so voluptuous! They remind me of a gorgeous fabric on a Prom Dress. And the shrub itself looks very happy there and is a good combo with the Sedum. Lovemycorgi, I think your bloom is really fabulous too! I like the lighter pink with the deeper eye. Every time I see pretty Hibiscus like this, I just want to grow all of them...lol.

Peren.all, I had one like yours, I still have it but it is not in a good locatoin and had one flower on it and was a foot tall this year. [g] It's in a neglected bed and not enough sun. I'm still trying to decide whether to move it to a better locatoin and try to keep it.

I've had a new one for 3 years 'Berry Awesome' with the dark foliage and I've been enjoying it. I have had trouble with what I think is the sawfly larvae. But I discovered last year if I just slid my fingers on the underside of the leaves, I'd feel a caterpillar and could easily pick them off. This year, though I think I had a different insect. Luckily it didn't do too much damage. This is from 2021, when the garden had a better year [g]....

GH it had got smaller over the last 3-4 years. I probably should have tried to revive it but after so long I figured it had just run its course.

pm if you have a chance to move it I would. 'Berry Awesome' certainly lives up to its name. What a beautiful plant combo!

Gorgeous photos GardenHo and Prairiemoon! From seed I grew 'Honeymoon Light Rose', it gave some nice blooms a few weeks ago, though apparently these plants resent the now cooling nights and new flowers coming on are all puckered, browning and deformed as they unfurl. I guess just not meant to be despite these plants being capable of wintering without much problem. I'm not giving up, this was a cooler wetter summer, next year could be back to baking hot to their liking.

A nice "side by side" comparison of old standby BLUE RIVER II and the much more compact recent introduction MARSHMALLOW MOON and finally COOKIES and CREAM which is distinguished by its very dark folige.

^^ They're both lovely, but I like the Blue River II -- it has more charm to it than the Marshmallow Moon. I like big, tall plants, which are getting harder and harder to find.

I don't currently have any cultivars, mine are now all native species in a perfect shade of light pink. Love them. I had a white one but gave it away, I kinda wish I hadn't done that, but I can probably locate another one at one of the native plant nurseries. Or get a tall cultivar like Blue River II. When I re-do my front landscape (hopefully sometime before I die...), I would like a tall, brilliant red hibiscus or two (or three).

GardenHo -- did you ever find that plant tag? Oh yes I would buy one if I knew what it is!
