I am commenting on this photo. Why is there crown molding here? There is no other crown molding anywhere and it is in no way related to the rest of the trim. It looks lost in translation. Remove it. Why is there picture framing? Remove it as there is no rhyme or reason why it should be applied (and I mean applied) to those wall areas.

Just choose one lovely neutral color for all the walls (eggshell finish), trim (semi-gloss finish) and ceiling (flat finish). Let is all blend together. The different sheens will make simple trim look more important.

Thank you for your suggestion! Here is a black ceiling inspiration picture. I like the black ceiling with an accent wallpaper wall similar to this. The rest of the walls a lighter neutral color, but wanted the separation wall dark to match the ceiling but now thinking I'll just make it all the lighter color and have the counter top black.

Black may look good in inspiration photos, but it is hard to apply correctly, and it may be harder to live with. You can always paint later if you change your mind. But now, in a rush, it is better to stick with the safe light neutrals and live with it for awhile.

Yes, I agree! I don't think I could ever do dark colors on the main floor, but this is for our basement game room. And we're going for a fun, swanky vibe. Our doors are black, and the fireplace/arch area will be black, but the built ins surrounding the fireplace are white oak with a natural stain. So I'm hopeful that will bring some warmth to it... But not too much. It's just the separation wall/counter wall adjacent to the fireplace wall, that I had envisioned dark as well bringing the two spaces together. Oh well!

I agree with the advice from @elcieg. Keep the whole open concept area one color.
