i am in 5a, my potted hosta go in my unheated shed for the winter, they do great. I bring them out when they start to pip and water them then. I am guessing an unheated outdoor garage should work for you, not sure about the heated space, but heck, its an experiment.

maybe someone else will chime in here with more suggestions.

I think it has a better chance in the shed…and dont forget to give it an occassional drink of water. Good luck!

I am wondering how it “rooted” as hostas grow from the rhizome which has roots, but I didn’t think they would grow from roots only……am I missing something? I would think it would do better wherever it will go dormant.

if they survive z2 in the ground.. then put it in the ground.. and let ma nature deal with it...

or experiment and keep us posted....

i would put it in the ground.. then put a bag of dry leaves over it.. when the ground freezes...the usual trick is to get them dormant.. and keep them dormant... AND ... protect them from heaving out of the ground during some midwinter warm spell... since it wont have a lot of time to grow a root mass to hold itself in the ground...

Ditto what Ken said. Hopefully you get a lot of snow because it is a great insulator.
