I like Satsuma, but forget the reason I originally decided upon it.

Gold Nugget mandarin is supposed to be pretty darn good. It's a late season fruit - late winter, and holding on into early summer maybe. But you might consider planting a Satsuma variety for early season fruit as well -- late fall, early winter!

Do you have enough summer time heat to ripen sweet citrus? Not familiar with San Mateo's climate. As they say,"If you want sweet, you need heat."

If you can find a Tango Mandarin on C35 or sour orange rootstock, plant that, youll never regret it. You could also plant a satsuma or Kishu, the Tango and a Gold Nugget, then you’d have ripe mandarins from November through May in your yard.
