Need Some Guidance

I need some advice on what color to paint/ stain my kitchen cabinets. I have always disliked the color but getting new cabinets and countertop just isn’t in my budget. I thought that painting the cabinets would give it a fresh look. The countertop is quartz. It’s in good condition just not my style anymore bit I don’t think I can cover that up. My colors are cream, grey and beige. I love light neutral because I’m able to bring in any accent color. Once I know what color my cabinets will be I will then repaint the walls. Thank you for any advice. It’s much appreciated.

Nice kitchen, neat as a pin.

If you are keeping your floor tile and backsplash tile, the new paint needs to coordinate with them. Have the floor tile professionally cleaned. Then install any new lighting. Then call your paint contractor for an estimate on new paint.

Of the three paint colors you list, cream is the most classic. Gray is trending out in a lot of areas but will continue to make a good accent color in things like towels for a while yet (my local stores are full of gray towels and rugs). Beige comes and goes in popularity.

While I can't see much of the floor tile, it looks slightly pinkish and the backsplash looks yellowish. You're going to have a hard time finding a color that goes with both of those. I don't think it's very easy to stain cabinets that have a factory finish. Ask a professional refinisher, but you're probably looking at paint. I suggest you consider either replacing the flooring or backsplash so you have an easier time of finding a color that will work. If that is the extent of the countertop I would replace it and then the backsplash. Such a small area won't be too expensive.

Whites that are popular on cabinets are SW Alabaster, Pure White, Extra White and Snowbound. Or look at BM White Dove, Cloud White, Simply White and Chantilly Lace. Get some samples and pay particular attention to how they look with the floor. The pink tint may be challenging. The whites that lean yellow may not work. I agree with apple_pie_order that gray isn't used very often anymore. A white or off-white will be a more durable choice.

Hard for me to see what colors you have in your countertop, and if you are keeping that it is important to find something that works with it. This photo has different countertops, but the colors are a little similar, which is why I am showing it to you. Cabinets are BM Spanish White and walls are Pittsfield Buff. I don’t think you need to go that yellow with the walls, though. Are you replacing the backsplash? I think something that works with whatever you choose for the cabinets would be great. A simple cream subway would be easy and fairly cheap. The floor tile? It’s something you want to work with also.

I assume the flooring is staying so you will need a white that works with the floor and as much ahssle as it is to remove the backsplash that IMO will make the decision much easier . Have you ever painted cabinets before ? You really need a place to spray the doors and drawer fronts > Ideally a space where there is no air movement and no dust . Painting cabinets is hard work they need to be prepped for paint I always think a really good primer then 2 coats of paint . Be aware that regular paint does not stand up well over time . If a pro is the plan then make sure they use conversion finish and they are actual cabinet refinishers not a regular house painter . IMO the cabinets are nice looking but since we do not see the whole space hard to tell. BTW I think the counters aregranite and if so keep them they will work great with your other colors you like.If that flooring is only in that space i would seriously look at changing it.

Before you go to the trouble and expense of painting your cabinets, you might try a peel and stick tile that makes your current wood cabinets work with the countertop and floor. This one is from Amazon. Order just one package to see if you like the look and quality before commiting to it.

If you like the look, I’d replace your outlet covers - perhaps to stainless steel.

If you want to paint the cabinets, the floor will dictate which colors work. The backsplash will as well, but it's the easiest element to change.

If you are open to a color, a medium blue, especially a french blue could work.

can you afford a new floor.....the kitchen area looks small so I think a new floor throughout might make me happier.......trying to work w the existing kitchen, in other words. A new backsplash of course.

bigger kitchen shown but wood floor elevates the quality feel of the space while the cabinets are quite ordinary.
