Thanks, that does sound more correct. Even with that, I'll still be looking at closer to 4" to 4-1/2" from the adjacent wall. I looked, and it appears that all the Bosch dishwasher instructions have this 6" "minimum."

It struck me as being extra odd, seeing as how KitchenAid, Whirlpool and other brands I've looked at specify 2" minimum (probably from the door).

I've never seen that amount of minimum clearance either? I'd say this is a case of "protecting their a$$, for whatever reason". I showed it to all of my co-workers (40+ yrs experience) and they all wondered why it was so much as well.

Not a great photo, but I have an 18" Bosch 800 dishwasher installed in the corner of my remodeled kitchen. The filler is maybe 3" wide at most. I have have no problems opening/closing the DW door. I also checked in the installation instructions and they said just make sure you have enough space from the wall to open the DW door.

I have essentially the same dishwasher next to wall and the "box" of dishwasher might be a few inches from wall at most- door is about one inch from wall when it opens... its been fine for several years with no issues or incidents other than occasional water splashes onto wall when loading things into it. I'm not exactly answering the question you asked, but here are several rather dismal details about the purchase of my Bosch dishwasher last February -- sorry I don't know the model; I'm at work and can't check -- I certainly hope your experience is better:

- First I had an awful time with Lowes delivery. They told me it would be something like two months before delivery, then -- on the day of delivery -- they rescheduled via text message saying they'd deliver in something like six more weeks. Of course, that has nothing to do with the quality of the machine, but it was a bad time for me.

- The delivery men had a very bad time with installation. My "dishwasher hole" is standard sized; my family's been in this house since 1983, so I've seen several dishwashers come and go, and they all just slid in. No installation professional has ever said a word about the process. This one was about 1/4" too large. The delivery men were excellent and somehow made it work.

- I despise this dishwasher. Hands-down, it's the worst appliance I've ever used -- and that includes bottom-of-the-barrel appliances in college rental apartments.

Problems:

- The lower tier's design is ridiculous. Half the tines go one direction /the other tines go the other direction; thus, if you put plates in the back side, you only have 2/3 of the front tines space left! It holds SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than any other dishwasher I've ever owned. I have seriously considered looking for an old dishwasher from -- well, if I knew where, I'd have done it -- to see if I could sub in a different model's bottom tray.

- I hate that the power doesn't turn off when the machine is finished. I often run the dishwasher late /just as I'm going to bed, and I figure it can't be good for the machine to stay "on" all night.

- Worst of all though is that the thing is TOTAL CRAP at cleaning anything except a bowl that held soup. I almost always have to re-wash my frying pans or pots -- seriously, it often leaves scrambled eggs on a stainless steel pan -- I now consider the dishwasher a pre-wash.

- I am beyond heartbroken thinking I'm going to have to put up with this awful thing for years. If it broke today I'd be thrilled. No Bosch appliance will ever darken my doorway again. Ever.

In all fairness, nothing is all bad. My daughter is fond of saying, Even Hitler killed Hitler.

- My Bosch dishwasher is quiet. That's no small thing.

- I like that it contains TWO small silverware containers instead of one large one. Often I remove one, and that allows me to fit in another pot.

The cabinets are "Urban 2" from Nations Cabinetry's Dreamcraft Doors line in Walnut veneer and the pull is from Du Verre's Tribal line. I ordered the pulls from myknobs-dot-com.
