Define "spruce up"? Paver Patio or concrete patio? Build a deck?

Looks a bit dangerous right now with just the tops of buried boulders on the uphill side. The whole area is uneven so chairs would be tippy and I said plenty of opportunity for someone to trip near the fire. Think about excavating a level area in the entire seating zone around the fire put and lay a nice circle of brick pavers there with perhaps a low wall, seating height on the back side of the pit.

I'd put pavers on the front side of the pit and plant more in the rocks behind it. With a little definition, the area will be lovely.

I’d define it with something like edging, and fill in with pea gravel. We did this recently with the same edging, but different seating. The gravel is cheap from a quarry. In the Midwest it’s 16.00 per ton if u can pick up. We used Edgeright Edging from Amazon.

Some option with pavers
