Dining room Disaster

I need help with my dining room. I would like some accessories that give it a more polished, professional look. Any ideas or any recommendations? I’m not feeling any of these existing accessories right now.

Are the flowers and fruit real ? I f so that is all you need of not ditch them and get real IMO never a clock in enrertaining space so dith that too. I would do a new chandelier that lights the table and be done unless you wouldlike to add drapes for a bit more cozy feel at night. Do people actually use those pillows on the end chairs ?

The flowers and fruit are fake. What would you recommend over real flowers for a center piece? Real flowers will get expensive. Also, what to replace the clock with? No one uses the pillows.

Can you turn the table? It looks cramped in the space. If not, I would move the chairs at the ends and place them on either side of the sideboard. I would also advise ditching the flowers at least. Maybe just an orchid. The ones you have won't work if you have people eating there-too tall. Have you considered a rug to bring a little color into the space?

    Looking for the disaster here…..

Beautiful dining room. I’d try the floral arrangement over on the buffet as it looks a little tall with the chandelier above. I would find a new home for the clock. It’s nice but just doesn’t look right there in the corner. The tray of fruit might work as the table centerpiece. With some candles around it and lay some greenery within the fruit tray. I agree with cyn427’s comment about trying to turn the table if the room allows it. A large rug would be very nice too.
I like your chairs but with all of them having skirts it is a little heavy. If one or the other is slip covered you may think of removing them to show a little leg. I’d lose the pillows on the arm chairs and keep it simple. Just some ideas…

Lol. Thanks. I guess I am looking to add some color and a more polished look.

I can’t turn the table but what chairs do you think I should put at the ends? Also, for a rug, what color should I add with the rug?

Two black farmhouse chairs on the end?

I moved the orchid and fruit tray.

If you like the fake flowers (they look pretty nice), consider that you would likely place them on the buffet when using the dining table since it is kind of big. If you choose to replace them, perhaps look at getting an oblong tray or pretty decorative bowl for the centerpiece. I would look into getting some soft linen drapes with rods that go with your chandelier, to add more warmth to the space. I really like the neutral colors you have going on.

That room and your furniture are all very beautiful. There is no disaster here. What is it that you think is so wrong that you would call it a disaster?

    My suggestions:

    1. Add a rug. The room seems a bit empty without one.

    2. Add a small table to the space in between the two windows and put the vase of flowers there.

    3. Get rid of the two chairs at each end of the table. It looks too cramped.

    4. If you want more polished, change the chandelier for something fancier. The one you have is lovely, but it is very simple.

    Pretty, serene room.

The potted orchid seems too large for the sideboard. I like the mirror but a metallic finish of some sort or maybe black might be better. Or try a large piece of artwork. Also consider removing the pillows on the end chairs.

Are all these accessories new or can you change some? Take the pillows off of the end chairs and dishes off the table and position the end chairs correctly. The angled chairs look staged. The orchid is too tall for the table. The orchids are nice but a long lower arrangement would be better on the table. The clock doesn't work in the room. I would remove two of the chairs from the table and put on the sides of the buffet. If you want color, you can add it in art. You have a nice foundation, just needs a little tweaking.

Honestly, the true decorations in a dining room are the dear friends and even dearer family. The second layer of decoration is the china, crystal, and silver. The third later is the array of lovingly prepared food. When you first asked the question, my mind soared to my dear friend whose table was always interesting and her food was phenomenal. She chose her guests as carefully as her menu and she and her wonderful husband cooked together to ensure a memorable evening.

I like those two changes better. I’d move the flowers to the right side of buffet since the entrance onto dining room is left of the buffet. For your wall I’d suggest some prints-could be vintage or perhaps black and white photos/prints. Something subtle. An airy tree suck as a faux olive tree would be nice in the corner where the clock currently is.

    Forgot to add the pics.

Touches of matte gold accents would look great too.

    Love that idea

    What about a lovely wallpaper?

I also think you need bling, which would be easy with your chandelier and/or wall sconces beside your mirror. https://www.lightology.com/index.php?module=prod_detail&prod_id=958787

Beautiful space. Yes to putting end chairs on either side of buffet. Ditch the flower arrangement, it is too big for this room, and say good-bye to the clock, wine thing on the buffet, and the bowl of pears. Your room is really sophisticated, which I appreciate. I'd elevate the look even more by adding a large piece of modern art with a black frame above the buffet. I think it would add a more glamorous and contrasting feel and coordinate well with the iron chandelier. I appreciate the iron chandelier. It breaks up the monotony of the current feel of the room.

The room looks like you can't get into it or find a way around to the other side of the tab;e. Your end chairs should be placed against the wall on either side of the buffet, and they should be lighter weight chairs but the stubby little wood chairs being proposed are going to feel like getting the short end of the straw for people forced to sit in them. I'd look for something more comfortable with back support.

    Kathy Kuon Maya chair

You have what appearss to be a very nice view out the window and it would reduce the stuffed feeling of the room to direct the eye to it. If you want a high end feel, how about framing the view in silk or velvet? Something really striking in terms of one solid strong color like gold or pink or emerald, or something with all the flowers you understanably keep wanting to bring into the room?

Then an art work for over the buffet

    Room needs some joy.

I love the wallpaper Jenny suggested. Also, the chandelier. Do you think a gold chandelier would work in this room?

sure a gold chandelier would work. And if you like the wallpaper and use it, I think you need light drapes to match your slipcovers for it all to look best.

You also need to create free passage around the table, moving away those heavy end chairs. Little black wood farm chairs are not going to look good with that particular wall paper or a gold chandelier.

such a pretty room! i just think it needs some accessory editing (removing the orchids and clock) and then some adding back a bit of drama (and art with personality) - I agree to remove the chairs at the end, the room wants to feel airy but can’t bc it’s a little overcrowded with chairs

I would find some curtain panels I loved and some great, larger scale art

Just make sure you look at the size of the wallpaper print, not the close up of it, to understnd how it would be on the walls

i would put the two end chairs on either side of the buffet unless using them - its way crowded. you might also try editing the skirts off the four side chairs - its all very heavy.

if it were me, I woul try the table perpendicular to how you have it - just see

    add a rug

get a pedestal table and put your flowers there against the wall you are not sure of

ditch the clock it screams homegoods

If you don't add wallpaper I would consider painting. For me the wall color, chairs and table are all too close to the same color. Below is a picture of something subtle, but in a dining room you can also go dark for a more dramatic or cozy look. Add drapes and a rug and you will really elevate the space.
