Help! I need layout ideas.

We are getting new furniture for our tiny living room (14’X 10’ usable space) and I want to make sure we have the best possible layout. We have just 2 people but 3 dogs and not pictured is a great rectangle coffee table that we love and don’t want to get rid of. And suggestions for a good layout the front door in the middle throws me off.

    Here is the coffee table

I know you didn't ask about the lighting, but I must make a suggestion. You don't want this room looking like a hospital. For a more intimate and welcoming atmosphere, put the ceiling lights in the living room on dimmers. Get a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

Thanks for the suggestion they are on dimmers and we have a lamp in one corner maybe with a new layout we could fit another one?

A lamp or wall sconce needs to be in each corner for optimum atmosphere. Lighting is often overlooked, but is actually a crucial part of the interior design process.

Your couch and ottoman/coffee table would work if the chaise was on the other end, the left end. And if the ottoman was larger. Which means the couch can have a longer chaise to go with the larger ottoman. No coffee table or armchairs. A single color cut pile dense plush carpet would be calming. Pale brown bamboo-like blinds and no curtains. I'd like to reframe the entrance door where the left window is. I wouldn't care if the exterior symmetry is off. You need the most sense of 'living' space as opposed the walkway.

Remove the mantle & lower the TV.

Tight space no matter how you move it around.

    My two big suggestions are:

    1) Agree with dan1888 to move the front door closer to the tv/fireplace to open up the actual sitting area. If that is out of the question, switch the swing of the door to open up towards the tv/fireplace. This will give you an open view to the cleanest space. Think "runway".

    2) Can you turn around the kitchen island so that the bar stools aren't into the seating area? I wasn't sure how large the island is but it could be lined up with edge of the oven.

Right now it looks like a big kitchen (you must be a great cook!) with some seating. If you turn the island, you will take advantage of the width of the room.

The table on the side of the kitchen, behind the sofa, has a piece of art on the side of the kitchen cabinet to hide the workspace. I did this in a kitchen I once had and it gave the living area a cozier feel.

Keep your upholstery in the same color tones including the rug. It will make the space feel larger. Also, I am a big fan of curtain panels, which you can't get until you have the furniture in place. Curtains delineate the areas. When looking at sofas/sectionals keep away from oversized puffy sofas with high backs. It will only close in the space. From your fireplace and lighting over the island, it looks like you prefer contemporary modern. Hope this helps.

I love the idea but the island doesn’t move

It might be worth it to have someone look at it. The move would make a giant difference. You have a really cute bungalow , but it seems it is configured incorrectly. I realize you can't move the island yourself, but I always say in my design projects: If a man built it and put it in place, a man can move/fix it.
