That's a good looking product in the pic. Many layers, with a thick wear layer. I don't think your quote is out of line for an upper end product or service.

That's a bottom end product within the available European Oak engineered flooring choice. It has a 3mm. top hardwood layer. It's only 7" wide. If you look at the offerings from Monarch Plank. Widths up to 11 inches plus and thicknesses of 4 or 6mm. The finish is important too. Some of the products use Bona products. That finish is highly regarded on these forums.

Monarch also offers unfinished French Oak Quercus robur, in preminum and rustic versions in various widths.

You can choose a bare wood finish from Ciranova Woodlook or Blanchon Intensiv. Both the same corporate identity.

Your quote is aimed at someone without knowledge. I would search out installers recommended by a Monarch dealer. And of course, shop around. Or a finisher using Ciranova or Bona products. The thickness of the veneer is 6mm and why does the width make a difference on the quality of the product? We don’t want anything wider than 7” but they can go up to 12”.

Also, the wood is plain, quarter or rift sawn - I can choose.

I’ll look into the finish.

Sorry about the veneer dimension. 6mm is a good quality level. But the link you provided lists this. Double check what is offered. $15 is too much for 3mm.

Also ask for the country of origin for the product. Look at the boxing before you buy. See what's on the box.

Rift cut and quarter-sawn are often used to avoid the open grain of domestic white oak, quercus alba. European Oak is a different species, quericus robur. Denser with less open grain. The picture you posted appears to be alba.

The link LOMO posted does give rigorous requirements for wider wood flooring. Those are for solid wood flooring. Your choice is for engineered wood flooring with a plywood core. Too bad our friend here hasn't recognized the difference that makes. Engineered hardwood can be installed in wide plank formats more easily than solid.

It's only with the use of European Oak with its denser less open grain characteristics that flat cut planks in wider format can be aesthetically attractive in showing the grain structure. You can see more of the wood. Combine this with non-yellowing matte high quality finishes and you get a product unavailable in the past. That adds value as it sets it apart from older flooring installations in competing properties.

A gven product/service can't be "too much"; the marketplace won't permit it over the long term.

The veneer is made with French Oak and the core is made with Russian Pine. The mill is in Vietnam and shipped to the US.

So is $25/square foot installed the going rate for higher-end engineered hardwood in bigger cities? I need to go into a couple showrooms and pose the question, but thought I'd ask here as well. I was thinking the Monarch engineered hickory.

This company makes a nice product too. When I priced it out back in 2020 it was around $13/sq.ft for material only.
