The red appears to have a different growth pattern as well as a different colour. Possibly reversion or possibly a different cultivar. Potted chrysanthemums are often a bunch of cuttings planted together.

@floraluk2: thanks! these blooms are from one plant, and on a single branch. So you don’t think they are different stage of blooming? maybe a revertion or mutation (unlikely)

Oh I digged out the old picture when I just bought the plant in a pot. It was indeed the same plant with red buds and yelllow open blooms. My memory has failed me 😂

Ah. This is a good example of why top down pictures are hard to interpret. The red flowers look as if they are on taller stems.

That is very a very pretty mum, the different-colored buds make for an interesting effect -- I like it!

Checking again, the red color fades to orange then yellow
