Have you considered soapstone counters?

@kelli_ga not really price wise i think its more? but they do have a black mist honed granite! not sure the cost of soapstone compared. is it also more maintanence’?

I vote against polished black granite in your kitchen. I have it in a bathroom and it is horrible. It shows every ring from every glass, spots, etc. Especially if you have hard water. Love your cabinet color!

With your light walls and flooring it will be fine. I like the green cabinets. Are you overhead lights on a dimmer? I would look for a stone that looks more like soapstone. Possibly a leathered black granite instead of polished. ETA: I now see your last photos look like a leathered granite.

In our last home, below, I had F&B Blue Grey cabinets and black soapstone that had some white veining for counters, window sill, range backsplash and sink. I had three windows vs your one, but I still think your kitchen is bright enough to pull it off.

Yes to painting, at least the window, trim white.

@Allison0704 thats beautiful!! yah we dont get a ton of natural light but defintely some (cloudy yesterday), & bright overhead lights. pretty open kitchen also. i am looking into also black mist honed!

Thank you. Soapstone is more maintenance. Needs to be treated a couple times a year. I always did myself, and it made my hands silky smooth, but it was a pain. I had honed granite in the kitchen and laundry of the house with antique pine island. It was low maintenance.

Generally am not a fan of black granite countertops but in your situation the black might work well. With your white walls and white flooring black counters along with the green cabinetry might be a good foil.

Consider grey slate soapstone or Pietra Grey marble for a classic look. I feel polished granite is the wrong look with the beadboard and green as it's too modern and and a bit dated.

When choosing marble for countertops, go the the marble yard supplier and pick the slab you like. Don't leave the choice to your contractor. You will be looking for color and veining. Bring a sample of the Pewter Green paint. For the backsplash consider a glazed tile for the high polish you like.

BTW the cabinets look gorgeous! Nice color. Consider painting the wood trim black.

I'd try a darker grey versus a black. I fear black will suck out a little too much light from the space. The cabinet color is lovely - and it looks like you did a great job.

@just_janni the only thing with grays (as i tested gray steel), is it almost reads blue in my space facing northwest. so i was kind of steering away from it as it looked kind of cold. but thank you for i appreciate everyones feedback! and yes i am so happy how they turned out! i also considered basic white counters but just a different look and i kind of was feeling the darker look more? but still unsure ☺😂

The cabinets look fabulous. The window trim wants to be painted. either the cabinet color, or white.

I LOVE that gray marble that was posted. Too bad about marble maintenance requirements and vulnerability.

I did live with polished black granite for awhile and did not like it at all. It had marks from damage and felt old and used. But I don’t care for working on a dark surface anyway.

I think dark counter tops would work very nicely with the green cabinets. My favorite is honed Jet Mist granite. It's black with subtle white veining, almost looks like powdered sugar sprinkled on it. Also very forgiving and low maintenance. I wouldn't do polished stone, it's too shiny and dramatic.

I like Denise's idea of a colored backsplash; white is kind of meh.

Beautiful! Yeah, try some other dark grey beside steel grey. I love steel grey, I have it now and I had it in our last house but it most definitely steers cooler towards blues.

@skmom yes definitely! gray reads too cool/blue in here. amazing the steel gray looked nice in warehouse… took the sample home and i instantly was like, nope!

If you like soapstone, don’t eliminate it based on price or care requirements without doing real research in your area. My soapstone countertops are maintenance free. Really. Oiling or waxing is a choice, and I choose not to oil or wax them. They are non- pourous, and do not need to be sealed. IME the cost per square foot was far less than quartz, and similar to granite.

If Black Mist is the same as Jet Mist/Virginia Mist -- YES! One of my favorite granites. No polished; go with honed or leathered.

Check out some of the faux concrete counter materials. Available in laminates, quartz and acrylic solid surface.

I love the butcher block counters with green cabinets in the photos of the link that Jenny posted. A warm wood would pair nicely with the green and white and gold toned hardware and tie back into your door and window trim.

There are some very realistic wood look laminates if you don't want the maintenance of real wood. Saw a display in Menard's; I had to actually touch it to see if it was real wood or laminate.

I searched for honed dark stone during this summer. Most showed awful marks from sweaty fingers...but were gorgeous. Stone yard sales person agreed...many honed dark stones show every bit of oil etc...just mentioning this in case you are a person who gets bothered by it. I have leathered steel gray in my laundry and it doesn't show finger prints/anything at all. I ended up going with satin Belvedere quartzite which also doesn't show any wet/grease stains. Good luck! I guess I'm in the minority, but with your dramatic dark green, I think that the black will be too much -- the lack of contrast will make each look less striking, while at the same time turning your kitchen into a dark cave (with a glowing floor). I'd consider a new white, pale gray, or even a beautiful wood counter here.

I would go with a honed jet mist granite or soapstone. It will add a nice softness to your kitchen. My soapstone is maintenance-free. I don't oil it.

Jenny posted some wonderful pictures of alternative countertops with green cabinetry. IMHO, the black countertops receded into the cabinets and were not distinguishable from the cabinets. This is especially true in a room that has minimal to moderate natural light. It became a large amount of dark, nothing special.

With the lighter color countertops, both the countertops and the cabinetry are stars- each shining in contrast to their neighbor.

I love brushed black countertops. This is MSI Midnight Majesty concrete finish quartz with green cabinets.

But brushed black granite makes a great kitchen countertop. Here are a few kitchens showing it.

Edited to add...I generally do not specify black honed countertops for kitchens because they do show a lot of fingerprints and grease marks. Leathered or brushed does not show as much. You should always test your sample to see if the maintenance is acceptable for you.

It looks good but keep in mind that it shows every crumb. I had black granite and it was beautiful right after I wiped it down but that lasted about 5 minutes. When we walked past this stuff it seemed to get dusty.

I have a very similar stone paired with a dark green cabinet color. It still makes me smile 3 years later! Can't wait to see your pics when all done!

I love the granite you found. It will be easy to maintain if you choose to go polished (my preference too). My greenish/grayish granite is similar. Sometimes shopping is the only way to find your countertop. ( and fall in love)

Be there when they template so the pattern is done in a way you can live with. All granite has “flowing” sections and you want continuity.

Can’t wait to see them installed. I love your green kitchen so far.

Hold off on buying any backsplashes. Get lots of samples AFTER THE COUNTERTOP is installed. That is a tricky part of any new kitchen. So far, yours is fantastic.

You made an excellent choice. It will be stunning. Make sure you post final pics.
