They do make telescoping poles - 24 ft long, for changing bulbs. Have you tried something like that? My cousin had a light on a 20-something ft ceiling that had a motorized chain that lowered the light for cleaning and bulb changing.

They make chandelier lifts. They are relatively expensive and they need to be installed by an electrician with an accessible switch. Plus the cost of the new fixture

Kendrah - we did try one of those, but unfortunately you can't get at the upward-facing lamps!

Chispa - we tried a 14’ step ladder had a hard time getting the top of the “A” within a safe reach of the bulbs. I guess we are hoping for advice on a lamp someone has installed that is a little less of a problem to access. Maybe hanging a foot or so lower would do the trick … and yes, to LED bulbs! Thanks!

Is the light needed at all? i would get a pro to remove it entirely and close up the ceiling. If illumination is needed for the stairs, get modest LED spotlight ceiling fixtures that last 50,000 hours. Save the chandelier in case when the house sold the realtor recommends putting it back.

I would replace that chandelier and the dining room one with more casual styling. Those are quite formal. A black or gray metal would be ideal, if the furniture in the photos you posted are what’s currently in the space. Light should be lower. In both rooms. 30-33” from table top to bottom of chandelier. I will post a few for inspiration. We have 18’ ceiling and my handyman has 16’ A frame ladder and hung my big chandelier and replaces bulbs until I put frosted candelabra style LED bulbs in. Been fine now for about a year and we have scads of power blips and outages. Bbl

Here are a couple budget friendly choices. Using black and some gold. Then repeat the black 3 times with small accessories and a couple pillows.

Yea they can get a chandelier lift but I agree with others this chandelier is hung far too high and is much more flashy than the stone fireplace or their furniture.

The photos are from MLS listing… but yes, we all have wondered about the choice for that style of home! You Pros out there, do you believe that hanging a fixture at the proper height would solve the accessibility issue? For cleaning purposes at least; I know LEDs really cut down on bulb changing. Just for the scale of the room the chandelier should be hung several feet lower. Having the chandelier show through the second floor window was a 90’s builder idea. Get a simpler open chandelier with leds that just requires dusting from an eight foot ladder.

You need to measure the ceiling height.

I think there was a swiffer duster that reached up to 6’.

LED bulbs to start and honestly any good solid stepladder for the rest. That fixture maybe could be hung a bit lower too. He could replace the fixture with a simpler style for sure .There are some fixtures that raise and lower but you still need to get up there to do so. I have such an aversion to these ridiculous high ceilings that just create no end of issues but they still seem to be popular . He needsa really good quality ladder that he will need for many things over the years

I have a very tall , cascading fixture in my foyer. LEDS have not needed changing in 7 years I’ve lived here . Twice a year my window cleaner cleans them . No scaffolding needed, just ladders .
