From the pics it looks really nice. Unless you really hate it or afraid it's too hard to keep clean, I would keep it. You can add color thru the furnishings and decor.

The darker the carpet is, the lighter the walls will look.

Here is my basement stairwell. Your family must be cleaner than mine so I chose dark carpeting LOL In your case, I think you need some more contrast. Maybe a darker paint. Right now, everything is the same color.

Why are you afraid of color? Do you only wear neutrals? Playroom to me suggests kids. I cannot imagine keeping the stairs or a playroom clean with carpet this light.

What better place to push your color horizons than the basement playroom? It may open a whole new world for you.

I think a LVP floor and some area rugs would have been my choice for a playroom but for sure darker or those stairs will be gross in no time with drinks, foor dirty shoes all the things kids do.

There must be a sample board that you chose this color from. Go back to it and choose a different color that is darker. I agree with Patricia that LVP would have been a better choice - that's what I did in my basement. Carpet always shows traffic patterns and LVP won't. As Jennifer says, a blue gray would work with Classic Gray, but so would something more clearly blue if that appeals to you. If you already have furniture you're going to use you should be considering it when choosing. Something kind of tweady with more than one color fiber would be a good choice too. Just don't overcorrect and go too dark.

I think it looks really nice, especially for a dark basement without natural light. If you go with a darker color, I would recommend seeing if you can get a larger piece to lay down on your space before you have them change it out. My only concern with the current color would be avoiding stains.
