I dislike ceiling clutter. Canned lights will be better, but still not ideal.

I’d consider one asian style pendant over the sink.

Can you do a 3-4 light/spotlight/bar light over the sink? Not a track light (ugh). Or 3-4 small individual lights that aren't pendants?

Yeah, two goosnecks over the sink would look great, given the wide window.

so here's yours. I like the window treatment here w/the black. I just think the hardware and trim color is dingy, AND the knobs are too small for the doors.

Hardware is the jewelry for cabs. ( don't be afraid to bring in a runner w/a bit of personality! get something at least 7' long for in front of the sink (or elsewhere) Here are some hardware options

maybe a rug similar to this? check out Loloi rugs on amazon or wayfair.

How about this look? paint out the trim to a whiter white, brass/gold sconces, and I gave you a rug w/pattern and color to match your cabs.

In fact, here's a few other tweaks.

paint your window trim black, and for the love of 'easy to do', switch out those cream-color outlets for the black ones! Amazon, walmart, Home depot. it's like 5 bucks including the outlet.

Here, I photoshopped your pic showing the black window trim, the black outlets (looks much better right??!) some sconces, hardware pulls and the plaid rug. (if you don't like the rug there are a million more. give me an idea and i'll point you in the right direction)

If you like the cup pulls, don't do the brass that's going to tarnish. do a gold plate, or the silver so they stand out a bit.

Here's another kitchen w/the black trim. do you need either of those upper cabs by the window? It would look killer if you could do some open shelves.

If you do go w/a pendant, and like the black trim, do a sconce w/a black wire and a white, gold or clear glass. I love this one.

I think handles/pulls like this would be a better look for your doors compared to the current knobs. no?

(Have you considered removing the 4" backsplash and doing a tile splash?)

very similar cab style w/black hardware. this one did the slate tile subway tile and they've accented the cabs w/a matte black. you could do something like this.

Here's a black slate tile w/light gray grout. if you went w/this, i'd do a white window trim and the gold hardware/sconce.

just an example if you did some open shelving (stained to match your cabs) and white w/white tile all the way up

Look at how nice this looks w/the shelves on the left and tile up to the ceiling. (zellige comes in the 4x4 too, or look at Cloe tile in the 5x5)

Another type of glazed brick. these aren't that expensive. You can see how it looks w/the black countertop and the reddish toned wood.

You can do a tile above the granite, but it looks better if you just remove it.

There are so many great options you could choose for you kitchen and they don't have to cost a lot. I know it's expensive to get things shipped there, so try and shop locally for tile options. (if you like that idea)

Smart choice for recessed lights and I'd put them above the sink too. If your kitchen were fully enclosed I would say go for gooseneck sconces above the sink. However, it is an open space and I don't think goosenecks will look good as viewed from other areas.

Your home has a really refined, sleek, yet warm wood look. Ever been in TJMaxx where they cram a bunch of random stuff in the checkout line tempting you to buy things you don't really need? That is what gooseneck sconces would feel like to me in your home. A random last minute doo-dad that is less elevated than the rest of your space.

We recommend a recessed downlight at the kitchen sink. It will provide better task lighting than a pendant.

Geeze, Beth....answer the question about the light already. OP didn't ask for opinions to redo the entire kitchen.

Actually, I appreciate the suggestions Beth. I’ve been your “Fan girl” from early on.😜 (You helped me with a backsplash with white macbus in a second home early on before quartzite was common.)

Here’s where we’re at:
Lights just came in, installation happening now. Ideas for goosenecks would be appreciated, I like this idea a lot.

The short backsplash will come down at a later date along with adding some tile, hence outlet covers not yet changed. Not even close to thinking about this but promise to reach out to you Houzzers once we’re ready.

I have been researching pulls, the current cups have a weird spread that’s difficult to find. I have found something that’s adjustable, not sure I love it. I might need to do cups again so please offer suggestions.

We had tossed around the idea of open shelving in the past. Again, not something we’re ready to do at this time.

Part of the challenge with living in paradise is finding skilled reliable craftspeople. You learn to do a lot yourselves but we also know our limitations and what we expect as a final outcome.

cathi33 geez cathi, I did answer the question about the lights, can you not read well? I Hardly think menitoning a backsplash tile constitutes 'redoing' the ENTIRE kitchen. Oh the drama. go take your meds.

I had similar cabinets in my previous house - with “matching” handles. When I changed them to brushed nickel, the kitchen looked better. I’m not sure if you chose the over-the sink lights yet, but if you like the idea of nickel for the hardware, consider the metal chosen for the over-the-sink light so they work together. Also, cupped pulls are sometimes a weird size so measure your holes before falling in love with new pulls.

Is brushed brass on the list? Again, make sure the new fixtures work with the new hardware.

The recessed lights look fantastic! The room just got bigger.

Yes, the current hardware spread is a weird size so difficult to replace. I’m torn for both hardware and lights in either nickel or brass. Will the brass just bring out more of the orange? The lights that interest me thus far have more of a glass shade.

That looks good. You actually notice the pretty wood cabinets now that the flying saucers are gone!

What is the “weird size”? Maybe some of us can help look for other options.

BYW - I have a bathroom vanity with “weird size” handles. I could not find brushed brass anything in that size. So I just spray painted them. They’re holding up fine. Last resort for you if you really want brass. (Just make sure to put gesso on the handles first. It makes the paint stick better.)

The cup spread between screws is 2”, not a weird size if we want cups but difficult for handles which we were originally leaning towards. Cups could be an option but what finish are you guys suggesting?
Still looking at lights but am feeling like I need to pick a handle finish, I’m not sure I want several different finishes. I like these lights.
