Voila Francois and Boy Crazy just kept going until the last possible minute, didn't they. I still had buds on Applique and Angels Sing Softly, but two nights at 28 degrees did those in. Your zinnias are so pretty, and what a nice tomato harvest!

Thank you Debra. Yes, they did just keep blooming. The zinnias were not all killed of and I had a slight cover over the two remaining daylilies with blooms. I just broke the bloom scape off of Citrix as it did not have time enough to bloom The tomatoes didn't bloom at all during the extreme heat, but kind of exploded when it cooled off; but most of them didn't ripen ahead. I will be curious to see how they continue to ripen indoors.

Beautiful daylilies and so late in the season too! I really like Voila Francois.

That's quite a haul of tomatoes. We got ours out late this season (We are trying growing them in a raised bed--it worked well) and we have had a steady supply of tomatoes since the middle of August. That's late for us--we usually try for ripe tomatoes by July 4. We picked all the sizeable green or half ripe ones on Sunday and the plants are now dead. I hope some of them ripen ok.

Nancy, I canned a few of them for fried green tomatoes in winter. I have a lot of them wrapped in newspaper hoping to slowly ripen them and I will make a couple of other things to can.

Thank you Mantis. They both managed to groe with so little rain and very little added water. I enjoyed the color burst of the zinnias ans will likely toss seeds in that bed again next year. The tomatoes were a mix of hybrid (one plant) and heirloom (2 plants).

I am amazed at your tomatoes! Mine did nothing this year-6 plants and not a single tomato made it through between disease and critters. Thankfully a neighbor had better luck and was generous with his! Love the zinnias. I had some ”State Fair” zinnias this year that were spectacular and huge!

Kate, I had just some stragglers ripen along and the the heat came and, of course, they do practically nothing during the extreme heat. But then, they just filled the plants with fruit. I had raised a couple of the plants from seed so I had been disappointed and then very surprised. As for the zinnias, Nothing had been grown in that area before. I put down some compost and mulch then tossed some seed on top and the zinnias grew really well. In, fact, even with the freezes, some of them are continuing to bloom.. unusual.
