We did tile all through the ”spine” of the house - the front hall and the hall to the bedrooms are grey large format hex. The laundry and baths are the same tile in a smaller format. All of the other floors in the house are wood. I like tile at entryways for practicility - we live in a wet climate up here in the upper left hand corner.

theotherjaye do you have any pictures? I'm concerned about the tile in the entry because I don't want it to break up the space. Within the first 3.5 feet you hit a bathroom on the left and the entry to the living room on the right so the tile would have to be a pretty small rectangle "patch". Just not sure what that would look like in this small area.

I honestly think that if you keep your tones consistent throughout such as gray tones, then a grayish tile, etc. it makes it much more cohesive. The wood look tile idea is not a fad in my opinion, but I think it is more targeted to different parts of the country where tile makes more sense such as very wet areas, very sandy areas like the desert, etc.

J Mig, I am not getting a wood look tile. I have wood. My husband wants to add a section of tile at the entrance, in addition to replacing the (real) wood in the entry. I think this tile look is something people will either love or hate and could date the house. I'm attaching pic for reference

No one will question wood throughout with a great rug. Lots of people will hate a tile area by the door that doesn’t relate to the rest of the space.

If you ultimately decide to do the tile I would still keep in the garage enough matching flooring so you can either later change your mind or be in a position to offer it to a future owner at re-sale

I wouldn't choose or want that small inset of tile.

Tile by the front entry door of a house makes a lot of sense, particularly for a big family or one with lots of guests. Wood floors take a beating from wet, muddy feet, and dirt gets into the cracks in between. Tile and put a rug over it.
