I don't see your photo yet. Why not just paint the ceiling either the same as the trim (assume you're talking about crown) or a little lighter? Paint store can mix a 50% version of a paint. As much of a pain as it is to paint the ceiling, IMO it's more time consuming to paint the trim. It's tough to use a cream on trim because it will look yellow next to a lot of light neutrals.

It doesn’t look awful — thank goodness! I’m moving on to my upstairs which involves painting the 35-year old trim and I’m debating changing the trim color. I know everybody says to use the same trim color for the whole house (the ceilings upstairs will definitely not be ceiling white!) so it’s forcing me to think about the best solution for downstairs (which I’ll probably tackle after I spend 6 months recovering from doing the upstairs. lol)

I used BM Cloud White on my ceilings, walls and trim, different sheens. I’m very happy with it. Consider changing your ceiling color upstairs and see if you like the trim better.
