Yes there is a cherry tree with red leaves a foot away.

Edit: I misspoke the cherry tree is about 3 feet away.

In which case I think your little tree is a sucker from the root stock of the purple leaved Prunus.

My first peach harvest was a lesson in how all the critters will wait until your fruit is almost perfectly ripe --- and that they can all climb trees. I have not, in fact, harvested any peaches yet, despite having a promising crop for several years.
