Color Changers and Colors That Defy Description

This is the thread for daylilies that change color and those with colors that are hard to classify. The next category will be Spotted and Streaked Daylilies on Friday.

For my daylily with a most unusual color, I will nominate Tiffany Shade. It's registered as a raspberry rose, but it sometimes has lavender tones here. I know of no other daylily with a color like it.

I no longer have any registerd daylilies that are color changers. But I do have a Click Bait seedling that is. In the mornings it's almost a black red, but by late afternoon it will be a bright red that matches the watermark.

    I love Tiffany Shade, Debra!

I have 4 in this category. I had a color changer [Priscilla's Dream] but got rid of it.

Purple Riot is very dark black-purple some days [can't quite capture the black] but red purple others.

I've never been sure of Children's Festival's color and it does vary a lot.

Pinhill Claret Symphony varies from red-purple and various reddish or purplish combos.

Bombay Silk is another one that varies.

I have just a couple of this category. The first two photos are Coast to Coast. I’m never sure what each day will bring. I do see the second photo more often.

Woman at the Well is another strange color. I’m not sure to call it peach or yellow….just really different. It has done well here. I like it because it is different.

I had to really think hard to come up with something for this category. I don't own any 'real' color changers but I do have a few that change up their look depending on the weather conditions.

This is not a color-changer but it's one that definitely defies description! What a strange looking daylily......Nowhere to Hide

Diana Grenfell.....can be reddish, dark purple or anything in between

I've shown this seedling before.....out of Deepwater Horizon x Allie Katt....it can have shades of brown, gray and purple

Teddy Bears Picnic....sometimes purple, sometimes gray, often times brown. It definitely has 'moods'!

Lucifer's Fire, I don't like this one at all but no one will take it....LOL. It is a very strange color, not really red and not really orange.

As everyone knows, Trahlyta comes in different shades according to the weather. Here she is purple on cool days but on hot days she fades to a greyish color

As Brad stated, Pinhill Claret Symphony is not really red and not really pink....more of a raspberry color

Sasquatch Socks, a blend of many tropical colors

I have no idea what color Tactical Deception is!

    Wackford Wife, another unknown color

I just have a couple to add.

I have never seen Pigment of Imagination when it first opens. By the time I get out to its section of the garden it has already started the process. It doesn't help that it is in a spot that gets the morning sun. It might be interesting to plant it in a place with morning shade.

This must have been an overcast day.

This photo is interesting because the back flower had more shade and hasn't changed as much as the front one.

I really like Hey Soul Sister. Sometimes it has this grayed smoky look with a dark eye and on other days it looks solid near black.

    That's all for me.

I don't really have color changers that change throughout the day, but I do have several which change throughout the season.

Here are three pictures of CHARLOTTE ROYCROFT

    PHILLIES' PINSTRIP

    ULTIMATE ILLUSION

    That is all from me.

I have Pigment of Imagination too, I thought I had a picture of it but apparently not. Nancy, the 1st time I saw it, I did not check the tag and wondered why in the world I would have gotten it. I am not impressed by it at all early, it is interesting later in the morning. I kept it because my husband liked it so much. So many pretty daylilies. It is the time of year I love all of them.

I have Trahlyta and Teddy Bear's Picnic, they do change daily. Also Matthew Martin

Nancy - Good to see you posting here again! Matthew Martin does show a dramatic color change!
