I suggest a larger coffee table for this space and that you move the two white chairs closer to the sofa for an arrangement more conducive to conversation. From what I can tell you have two different end tables. Its impossible to see the one on the left side. I would get two matching ones. The one on the right side is nice. I would consider buying one or two Tiffany style stained glass lamps as they would look nice with the colors in the area rug and add some elegance to the room.

I find it a bit hard to get a feel for the space the pics distort the area IMO. I agre a larger coffee table the chirs pulled into the conversation space not in front of the TV and why that rug in the soafa area and no to the rug in front of the FP/ Remove the mirror ot reflects nothing worth seeing twice and add a nice piece of art or simple mantel decor,For sure no Tiffany lamps the stained glass can be that style without gilding the lily. Some endtables for the sofa with good sized table lamps too.

One of the few times I recommend installing the t v over the fireplace.

Position the rug in the middle of the room. Turn the sofa to the fireplace and put the two chairs on the rug.

So little round rug is gone.

The now the empty wall where the sofa was, place the console with art over it. The console is a great spot to add lamps.

Thank you for your suggestions. I want to provide some more photos of the room to provide a better view into the next room. To the left of the fireplace is the entrance to the dining room which makes bringing the two chairs closer to the couch a bit difficult and will block that pathway. The same issue exists with putting the couch in the middle of the room because then it will face the entrance to the dining room.

Also we tried putting the TV over the fireplace when we first moved in and due to the height of the fireplace, it made the TV-watching experience straining on the neck.

To start …try painting the ceiling trim to match the wall color..as it only accentuates the long narrow dimensions of the room…also lowering the mirror to sit in the mantle would create a more unified look in that area…spreading the chairs and facing them a little more toward fireplace and little change of color to the fireplace brick will make it a better ..but still subtle …focal point at that end of the room…lastly an oval or rectangle rug in front of the fireplace..will complement it more ..a nicer ambiance…and provide a nicer open walk thru space with less tripping hazard..

Another observation the black openings on each side of the fireplace are distracting…….if all that..plus trim was white …the pretty windows would be able to be seem in day …or night time…much better

Also …for some reason placing your furniture to overlap the rug a little feels cozier and leaves a little space behind to hang curtains or sheers at each end of the windows..for another soft and subtle effect in the room

Lastly..for comfortable use of the long couch..two tables or even ottomans …(with trays)….in front of the couch….that can be moved easily will serve anyone seated any where on the couch better than tiny end tables

I would want to (1) address the awkward relationship of the sofa to the large window, (2) balance the colors (right now the left in the original photo is all light/white, the right is all deep/warm), and (3) create an inviting conversation area, while not blocking traffic lanes.

Here's a rough edit that (1) adds three drapery panels (one covering the rightmost of the three windows) so the sofa is centered on the space between two of them; (2) eliminates the round rug and adds dark wood bookcases on each side of the fireplace (the dark line of the mantel can then continue all the way across the room to "widen" it visually), and (3) pulls the white chairs up to the red rug, moves the smaller chair from the corner by the TV to the other side of the red rug (replacing it with a larger upholstered chair in that corner), and expands the coffee table. (I see you've used MCM touches, and I actually would want the glass-topped Noguchi coffee table shown below but couldn't convincingly substitute it in the photo!) A slim console table or a not-too-deep bookcase (with glass doors?) could go under the stained-glass windows on the right if that walkway looks too bare. Plants and art would finish it off. See what you think.

Incidentally, I've shown simple creamy white draperies, but if your heritage is Indian, I could also see draperies made of a beautiful deep red sari fabric.

Look at simplynaturals' layout with two chairs brought forward, third chair facing them (or could be vice versa with two chairs near entry end facing the third chair--I still like idea of third chair by window and fireplace as a reading corner). I don't believe that arrangement would block dining room. You've created an island over by the fireplace that doesn't connect with the rug, the sofa, or any coffee table--not a good conversational layout.

Center sofa just on the wall and remove the lamp and small drum table. Get a nesting coffee table that can be stretched out as needed and reachable from sofa and chairs.

The reason your room seems cluttered is because the furniture is pushed up against the walls in a room that has so many architectural elements. Beautiful room, BTW.

1) Center the rug in the room - centered on the fireplace.

2) Center the sofa on the rug and bring the sofa about 20" away from the window wall.

3) Bring in the lounge chairs flanking the sofa and facing the tv.

4) I would like to see a large wood coffee table, boho in style. I see you have a MCM cabinet under the tv and a MCM coffee table will be too skimpy for the size and style of the room. Play off the walnut.

5) Place a console table off center of the sofa and centered on the window for lamps and accessories.

6) Consider glass end tables. The size to be determined after the other furniture is placed.

7) Remove the round rug.

8) Consider building in low bookcases on either side of the fireplace, which could be painted the same as the fireplace and walls, or walnut, if custom built.

9) Rooms always look better when you dress the window with curtain panels, ceiling to floor - 6" beyond the width of the window. Even if you keep the curtains opened, make sure you don't skimp on the fullness. 2-1/2 times the width of the window is rule of thumb. Pierre Frey printed linen panels or natural linen with an interesting border using contrasting colors to compliment your rug would work well.

10) Art is very subjective, but think big. One piece between the window and the entrance, and one big piece over the ottoman. Support your local artists by going to art walks.

11) Consider Grasscloth on the walls.

I don't have the dimensions of your room but going by your photos I would suggest you try the layout below for a better flow and conversation area, as well as no glare on your TV screen if it's not facing the window. It would also feel more inviting to walk into the room facing the sofa rather than a TV screen.

A window treatment something similar to this would also make the room more finished.
