Placement of bedroom ceiling light

I just moved into this new (older) home. I have a canopy bed which cannot sit in the center of the longer wall as it is centered under a window. The room has a ceiling fan which I am replacing with a brass semi-flush ceiling light; however I want to move the placement of the fixture to be a) centered with the bed, and b) farther from the foot of the bed, so it is clear of the canopy rail and allows me to move the bed away from the window a bit. How far can I move the ceiling light away from the foot of the bed? Ideally, it would be above the “walkway” at the foot of the bed, but it would then not be in the center of the room. Thanks for any advice (or permission) you can give! Photo attached. (Room hasn’t been painted/decorated yet.)
