    3. What are you doing or did today? Going for walk and having coffee with a friend, returning readers that are the wrong power and going to the gym tonight

    8. Who took care of you as a kid? My mom and then a nanny
    9. What was your last embarrassing moment? Don't really remember
    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? Years ago I was out running and it was pouring rain. I stepped on a pine cone longwise and fell off and splayed myself right out through a puddle. End result was a hyperextended rotator cuff, torn ligaments in my ankle and a fracture at the bottom of my tibia. Fortunately someone saw me fall and came dashing out of their house in the pouring rain and drove me home. My kids still tease me about "falling off a pinecone".

    9. What was your last embarrassing moment? I put on my bathingsuit inside out without realizing it, and went down to the beach at a family gathering like that. My family (sisters, kids, sisters-in-law, nieces, etc.) howled with laughter and have never let me forget it. Never will, either, but they're the greatest despite it (LOL)!

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? Oh geez, let me count the ways! I've broken so many bones in my life! I was a tomboy growing up (still am, I guess). I was always the pitcher at our neighborhood baseball games but my good friend, Kathy, who was very uncoordinated, needed some coaching to finally hit the ball. So, one day I decided to be the catcher so that I could coach her when and how to hit it. After 2 strikes, she finally hit the ball for the very first time. . . and was so excited she threw the bat before running to first base. I forgot to tell her not to do that! Unfortunately, her thrown bat hit me across my nose and broke it.

    Oakley thanked LynnNM

They were/are my fave Cole Haan boots so I just had them re-soled and they looked brand new when fixed. Still have them.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? When I called the dog out of the woods while standing by the gate. Dog came running, I didn’t move away fast enough, 90 lb Lab ran into me, and I ended up in the air, slammed down on my side. Home alone, crawled to the house and ended up having a cracked rib and a sore shoulder.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? I tried to iron something for this trip and burned my hand. Iit was silly because I do not iron— I pay people to iron our clothes and napkins and tablecloths precisely because I always burn myself when I attempt to iron. Every single time. That makes it stupid though, not silly.

I dropped a 5 lb weight on my foot and broke my toe a couple of years ago. I set the weight on the seat of the Peloton and it rolled off. Just so stupid.

    2. What was the last thing you ate? A piece of chocolate

    3. What are you doing or did today? Hooray no more glasses. I also ran some errands — post office, car wash and had my nails done. Still need to go pick up a prescription and run to the bank to deposit some checks. Might go to happy hour with my bridge friends later.

    1. What are you wearing? Eileen fisher leggings, Tommy Bahama quarter zip. Same as most days of the week 😊

    2. What was the last thing you ate? 3 cold left over scallops and a hispanic lime soft drink I'd picked up just to try (bottled, and it was good)

    3. What are you doing or did today? Washing sheets, cleaning out my gift wrap dresser drawers in guest room. My SIL is away for a few weeks and I'm taking advantage of her garbage and recycle service as well as Good Will and Clothes Bank to pare things down. DH is running errands and when he gets back we will move some 'iffy' potted things like the big geranium planter into the garage in prep for cold temps beginning overnight

    9. What was your last embarrassing moment? I noticed how clingy my nephews 18 mo old was to him, wanting nothing but to be held, and said to him....It looks like Dad needs to start staying home more. He'd just returned from a hunting trip. I didn't know he was going out of state the next week for a much anticipated and expensive second trip. He's a nice man and I didn't mean to make him look overcome with guilt.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? It wasn't recently, but I was rushing to finish up my hair, back combing one side when I somehow caught my thin hoop earring in the brush and pulled the clasp inside my ear lobe. Couldn't get it back out. I had to go to the emergency room and that doctor said certainly a first for him. It took almost a minor surgery in that ER room and he did put in a stitch back of my lobe to make sure it healed smoothly. It did and I have no issues still wearing pierced earrings now but did not for a while.

One time, after just meeting a woman (she was the wife, older than us, of an important person in my husband’s business life), instead of saying blow dryer, I said something that was not ’dryer’. At every meeting after we had a chuckle.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? A clothes hanger attacked me just before Christmas. Blood everywhere! Thin skin (Nowadays if I blow on my arm it will bruise or cut.)

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself?

I don't know how many times I've burned myself when I cook something in the skillet in the oven. The pan comes out of the hot oven with a mitt but then while it's sitting on the stove I absentmindedly grab the handle. Because skillet handles on the stovetop aren't supposed to be hot, I guess. I've taken to leaving the mitt on the handle when it comes out so I won't forget.

Gscience, that's not funny. How are you doing? Good grief that had to hurt. I had a Reece' Peanut butter cup yesterday.

Maddie, as much as I think it's so cool to have the same birthdays as your siblings, I truly feel for your parents arranging bday parties, etc. I have two boys, #1 born on Jun 11th, three years and one day later his little brother was born on June 12th. One weekend I don't think DH and I even slept because we had back to back sleepovers for each boy. My arm is the same way now but a hanger never went inside. lol

@mojomom, you play Bridge? How I miss our weekly Bridge night in college. When we moved here nobody played or wanted to learn the game. I can relate to your possible ADD, it's a pain. I have a very long list of things to do before tomorrow evening due to weather coming in, I think I've done two things. :) People don't understand that having ADD doesn't mean one is hyper.

  • last year

Thank yoi Lynn, I live for humor. DS and his official ring wearing fiancee next door still had lights up, but he was in DC and last night I messaged her saying, "Your Christmas lights are still up. Just saying...." lol We giggle like little girls! Take your time, don't stress the small things.

  • last year

Thanks, I am doing much better. This was early November, so I am off my splint and able to resume normal activity since Christmas. I had to delay my mammogram, but it was all good.

  • last year

Oakley, I always thought it couldn’t be ADD because of my ability (or disability) to hyper focus until I learned that was actually a symptom. i enjoyed the ability to hyperfocus on work projects, but it also was .problem when I totally blanked out on what was going on around me. i honestly could have worked nonstop on something while the house was burning up around me. But then if I didn’t hve anything to really focus on, I was so scattered that I couldn’t get anything mundane accomplished. I just noticed that I am using the past tense. Retirement helps. I actually got a lot of mundane tasks accomplished today, which is unusual for me. Of course there is still a lot of mail from the last week on the table that I still haveN’t gone through and clean laundry that needs to be put up — maybe tomorrow if nothing else comes up.

  • last year

I too got a nice, smiley chuckle reading Maddie’s post about her sibling’s birthdays. Wow! My own last sibling (there are 9 of us) was born when I was 19 years old. Exactly nine months to the day after my parent’s (apparently) very happy NYE. I helped throw my (wonderful, wonderful!) Mom a baby shower as she’d already passed along all her baby things to friends. At #9, she was totally relaxed and not stressed as she went into labor with my brother, Andy. Too laid back, as she waited so long to head to the hospital, she actually delivered him in the hospital’s elevator heading up to the delivery room😂! I was in training then at that hospital and heard for the next week about this amazing, calm woman who had her baby in the elevator. Yep, my amazing Mom😔👍!

    5. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself?
I’m going with walking the dog, although, technically, I wasn’t walking. I had stopped to talk with a group of people while I was walking my dog. My dog is certifiably nuts, and after waiting patiently for a bit, she saw a rabbit and bolted. I was totally caught off balance, and fell. I broke my elbow. Come to think of it, this may be better suited for the “most embarrassing thing”

Oh Jojo, having worked in the medical field for many years, I know that a fractured elbow is one of the most painful fractures to recover from. Ugh! I hope it’s all healed now!

I was the sole American on an Arctic expedition. After boarding the ship and turning in our passports, I was dining with my Italian friend and there was an announcement made that included my name (in German; I don't speak German). Shortly thereafter, a crew member rushed to our table and said the police needed to speak to me immediately—the ship could not sail until I did. I was ushered into the bowels of the ship where the police were assembled, holding my passport. They needed to confirm my identity, apparently by looking at me, then peering at my passport, and stamping it ceremoniously. I don't embarrass easily; I'd classify it more as an adventure.

    10. What was the silliest way you injured yourself?

I usually take a big heavy chef's knife to plonk onto an avocado pit, twist, and remove. Never failed me. I was in a hurry, though, and used a small paring knife thinking I could pull off the same maneuver. Sliced the base of my thumb through the already-existing line at the joint, very neatly.

I would like to amend my answers to 9 and 10, in a combo response. This was both painful and embarrassing, and I mention it mostly because my female friends of a certain age here might be able to empathize.

When we first bought our current house almost 6 years ago, we asked our favorite contractor to come over to take a look. When he came over to tour the house, the house was empty and there was no carpet/runner on the stairs. I was wearing socks, no shoes. As we came down the stairs from the second floor, DH and DC had reached the foyer, at the bottom of the stairs, and I was trailing behind. As I got to the last several stairs, I slipped and fell, sliding down the steps on my butt. In the process, I also peed my pants. (I guess the surprise of the fall knocked it out of me.) No one knew I wet my pants, but of course they saw me fall. Needless to say, I just sat there on the bottom step and waited for DC to leave. Good thing the "house tour" was almost over at that point.

I asked him if he ever heard Bridge Over Troubled Water? He said yes and I told him that was Art singing. First time I saw him silenced. lol Kids!

This is a fairly recent embarassing moment when I had Covid a year ago September. I was sick as a dog but handling it fine untl I had severe pain. Went to the ER and it was a kidney stone. I did test positive for Covid. I felt like an idiot!

kkay_md.....................that trip sounds like quite the adventure....not a luxury vacay....but sooooooooooooooo cool!

We were at the airport coming home from a dive trip to Cozumel when we found out ALL our plane tickets home had been cancelled and our trip leader(the dive shop owner) was arrested AND hand cuffed...taken away. His father had the same name.....he was NOT allowed to pay for a ticket with a credit card since his son was being charged with "Felony theft". Another couple didn't own a CC. We ended up paying for 3 extra plane tickets. We were reinbursed later. Seems the shop owner didn't get the two night dives he'd payed for.....22 of us on the trip....he did a STOP PAYMENT on a check for $13K. He was later released.....as a civil matter to be worked out later.

@funkyart, this is just too bazarre. At 16 I was standing at the bottom of the staircase which had a super thick solid wood bottom post and I was acting like an idiot swinging my arms when my right ebow hit the corner of it. I thought I'd pass out. That funny bone wasn't funny at ALL.

Had to go to the ER and they put my arm in a sling for a week or two. Everything turned out fine.

UNTIL last night. A week before I was goofing around again, my trademark hobby, and I took my right hand just to cross my fingers, like good luck. My middle finger coudn't cross the forefinger. My left hand fingers could easily do it. I googled it and almost a 100% of the results said it was the ulnar nerve which "could have been injured at one time." I have osteoarthritis in my right thumb too. Pretty certain I'm screwed. lol

    4. What song(s) make you turn up the volume on the radio and sing while driving? I never sing, truly. I can’t carry a tune and have an awful voice so it doesn’t bring me joy.

    5. What is your birthday month? I claim that it’s January when forced to list a month online or in stores. I recently read a tip to use December so stores send you the discount in time for holiday shopping. I don’t xmas shop so I’ll stick to the lie I can remember.

    6. What is your greatest strength? My sense of humor.

    7. What is your greatest weakness? Currently, impatience. That wasn’t always the case so I think it changes with my life circumstamces.

    8. Who took care of you as a kid? My Mum. Although to hear her tell it, my oldest sister raised the rest of us single-handedly. 😆

    9. What was your last embarrassing moment? I can’t think of one right now, I’ll be back at 3 am when it comes to me and keeps me awake ruminating.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? I was slicing an onion with my mandolin and had just thought ”wait a second, isn’t there a protective holder I’m suppose to be using?” when I sliced a bit of my thumb off. I almost passed out (I’m a fainter). I called my Mum and she came over and cleaned up the mess. I still feel woozy when I think about it, and it was years and years ago.

    7. What is your greatest weakness?

My curiosity and interests often sidetrack me!

    8. Who took care of you as a kid?

During the day it was my Mom. In the evening it was my Dad as my Mom was the night nurse at a local college. When my Dad returned to graduate school we were taken care of by neighborhood babysitters.

    9. What was your last embarrassing moment?

We were in Florence, Italy without any clothing as the airline lost our luggage. I roamed around trying to find things to wear, which was not easy especially since it was miserably hot. Finally found a skirt and top at a market stall. Thew it on and ran out to get coffee. I felt so miserable in those clothes but at least they were clean. The line for coffee was long, and soon I got a tap on the back from someone who let me know the tags were hanging off the back of my clothes. I was so exhausted and stressed that this embarrassed the he-- out of me! Just wanted to crawl into a hole.

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself?

Many, many years ago I sat on my embroidery scissors. Punctured my butt cheek and I was afraid to pull the scissors out. My children were babies and I was home alone. I called my neighbor who showed up with her kids and drove me to the hospital. Of course I couldn't sit down in the car. And to top it off the ER doctor was a handsome young resident. He got a good laugh out of it!

Just an added kind-of-silly #10 accident. Today while getting the house ready for company to celebrate our anniversary on Monday (41 years), I first ran at full steam into an open kitchen drawer and then ran my right foot into the corner of a cabinet. I now have a huge painful bruise on my right leg just below my knee, and a very, very painful broken toe on my right foot! Did I mention that I’ve always been klutzy? Athletic, but klutzy 😵

    4. What song(s) make you turn up the volume on the radio and sing while driving?

Any Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet will get me.

    5. What is your birthday month?

    June.

    6. What is your greatest strength?

I stay surprisingly calm in a crisis.

    7. What is your greatest weakness?

I will sometimes "pre-worry" about things and that takes the fun out of what I am doing.

    8. Who took care of you as a kid?

Mostly mom, but also dad and sometimes Grandma.

    9. What was your last embarrassing moment?

It takes a lot to embarrass me. I've either not had many lately, or I've successfully blocked them out. :)

    10. What is the silliest way you’ve injured yourself?

I was running down a sidewalk and jumped up to do a little sideways kick like a cartoon Leprechaun and one of my feet caught on the sidewalk and I wrenched my hip, which hurt for months afterwards. But it would have been a GREAT trick, if I'd pulled it off.
