Medium Pink Roses

Orchid Romance. This rose lives in my garden because of sara ann. Her pictures and descriptions of the fragrance made me have to have this one. I miss her posts and hope all is well with her

Social Climber. Never hear much about this climber and truth be told neither the plant nor the blooms themselves are much to look at but the fragrance? So good! Smells like spun sugar. For that reason alone I will always have one

I think I saw the same post on Orchid Romance and recommended it to my Mom who fell in love with it.

Sydonie does so much better in my yard thsn Baronne Prevost

Louise Odier-another one that gets nibbled on by the rabbits regularly

  • last year

Kiss Me Kate-the only reason she is still in my garden is because I take pictures…and when I see how pretty her RARE blooms are I can’t get rid of her

Sophie’s Perpetual-a perfect rose for me

Strawberry Hill does well in SF. I need to train it better this coming year.

  • last year

    Boscobel blooms well here too.

  • last year

Queen of Elegance blooms late here, but the spring can have literally hundreds of blooms.

The emergence of russet color depends on weather.

The best mid-pink Austin in the SF Bay is Princess Alexandra of Kent. It likes the alkaline soil here.

Love seeing all of those blooms in mid January, actually anytime!

Have lots in my garden, of course - here are three of my favorites:

De La Grifferaie - once bloomer -this one was rootstock on a boring yellow tree rose.

Mme Caroline Testout (early HT - blooms heavily in Spring and Fall) yellow friend is banksia lutea

Mystery rose - "The Rose of Many Names" (found and given different study names in CA over and over, until they realized they were all the same rose) Repeat bloomer, and very very fragrant

I forgot to mention that De La Grifferaie is one of the most fragrant roses I have.

Christine with a K., I grow both Hermosamosa And setina it's climbing sport and both are quite lyric 1st flowers. A flower a lot. Little to know fragrance. Hermosa itself can get quite tall. They are the sort of rose that just does it sling and 1 forgets about them. But they form a great background in that color. I agree pretty Jessica is another pretty pretty rose. I'm so glad I have her and she makes it through some very harsh winter so that's another plus in her favor. I'll have to see if I have any new pictures But Summer romance And Viking queen or also what I consider medium pink roses. I've spoken to some people in Kentucky and orchid romance does exceptionally well there so I'm thinking it would probably do well Here for both Elena and II me . Pink pet also falls on this category showing a bit of violet. And let's not forget Peggy martin. Another climber in this color is rosy mantle and Cl. Caroline Testout. Both Very nice roseroses and not grown wildly enough in my opinion. I have too many pinks to Work out the mall Reconnect them all. 2 recount them all. I'll see if I have any pics to dig up. Since getting hacked I hardly take any.

These are all REALLY pretty pictures. Certainly piques my interest in some of these..have thought about Sophie's Perpetual and Sydonie, and Pretty in Pink for awhile. These pics are great. Rose Lai your plants are spectacular! Glad I ordered PAOK this spring. Your plants have a lot of charm , Jackie.

Ashley looks interesting too. I have and like Pretty Jessica but my plants of it have always lacked vigor. They do repeat well and it's definitely pretty. I used to have Hermosa. Blooms were small and charming.

Here's a fragrant Buck, Prairie Breeze. Makes a nice upright shrub, not too big.

    Aloha

Anna de Diesbach very fragrant, could be called Anna de Blackspot

One of the best wafters on the lot, "Portland from Glendora", aka 'Joasine Hanet', which blooms and blooms, and blooms:

  • last year

@oursteelers 8B PNW, My 'Hermosa' is new to me, too, after more than a few years of "just missing" getting her (finally scored a band at last year's Celebration of Old Roses). So far, am impressed with both her vigor (already a nice 2 1/2'-foot shrub in half a year) and frequent, pretty blooms. Really looking forward to having her in the garden...as soon as I figure out exactly where that might be...

Jen, what do you think of the fragrance on Dream Weaver?

susan, your thoughts on paul shirville? i have considered that one for my peaches and cream area but its getting pretty crowded so it would to be strongly fragrant

  • last year

    Susan - gorgeous!

  • last year

Oursteelers, Paul Shirville is extremely fragrant. My best description is a honeysuckle-ish fragrance, but not a sickly sweet one. It blooms like crazy for me with great form... I have three of them. I think it's one of the greatly under-appreciated roses out there :-D

Since nobody else has shared them yet in this thread, two of my favorite HPs:

    'La Reine'

    'Mrs John Laing'

  • last year

LaReine is a gorgeous rose but boy does she battle blackspot in my no spray garden. How is her health for you, Ross?

  • last year

'La Reine' is not spotless -- few things are, in this no-spray garden during an Iowa summer -- but I haven't noticed a particular tendency towards blackspot. (It's much worse on 'Paul Ricault', 'Lady of Shalott', and my few bourbons.) I imagine it helps that she has prime real estate in my sunniest border...

Lilyfinch, those are awesome. I have a Margaret Hunt plant you enabled me into and I'm looking forward to seeing what it does this year. So far this spring I have been mostly obsessed with looking at clematis websites and clematis books. But I"m looking forward to the roses too.

Jen - I'm getting Ball Gown this year....what do you think of its fragrance?

Is Royal Kate considered medium or light?

    Carla in Sac

    I'd say that's a medium pink. :)

Tina , I can’t remember the scent on dream weaver for some reason , I’m sorry ! It does make some interesting large flouncy blooms . Pics to follow

Erasmus , I love clematis so much ! Margaret hunt actually is so lovely it took over the front side of my arbor . It originally played nicely with renea . Then this past season it smothered it and Renea blooms on the side facing my front door and Margaret steals the show on the front walk side ! I adore the combination. One problem I occasionally have is I plant Clems and never see them again. I’m not sure if they just give up and don’t want to compete with my roses but I should have a much bigger collection.

Carol .. I absolutely love the fragrance on ballgown . I am seeking out a spot for her in the ground bc I was pleased as punch with that rose ! I definitely recommend it !

1 of my favorite medium pink roses, Peggy martin.

  • last year

    Wow…that Peggy is something else

  • last year

Sultry - sooooo beautiful!!! Your B. R. Cant and Summer Romance look very similar...do they have different fragrances? Oh, doh...those first two pictures are both the same rose....Summer Romance. lol Your Boscobel IS very pink...cool!!! I love the tree frog...your roses are so unique in that they sometimes have tree frogs...adorable!!

    Vaporvac - incredible!!! It's easy to see why it's a favorite...oh my!!

  • last year

rosecanadian & our steelers, Thank you so much! 🥰

VaporVac, Your PM is amazing! I need a Peggy Martin.

I have 500 + ft of 4 rail horse fence going up soon. Not sure what color we are going to paint it yet or if we will leave it natural. PM would match most anything.

I've read that Peggy M is a good fence rose.

Does anyone know how far she will sprawl on a fenceline?

  • last year
    last modified: last year

I'm not sure she has a limit This can be a very large rose Even in a colder zone as she has little die back There are 2 on this fence and both are very large. This 1 is the largest as it is a year older.

'Pink Phoenix', a Hybrid Gigantea from 'Fortune's Double Yellow'.

It's probably not cane hardy in climates where temps stay below 20F for long periods, but I know this is perfectly hard here even when we get 7-10 days of temps as low as 15F.

  • last year

Very pretty , Paul..I like the different shades of pink in it.

Lilyfinch...I have also lost some clems to dwindling away. It works for me to grow them on it pots till they are quite substantial before planting in the ground. Maybe you do that anyway.

I love the colors in Margaret Hunt. At first I thought it was pinky/ mauve but now it looks like it has a lot of lavender in it. I think I'll like that. It goes so well with Renae.

  • last year

Maybe it was a mistake to check out this thread. Now I want every one of the roses shown. Yep, every single one.
